jabber,it's very kind of you. I'll go to Canada the next February and I'm also a java learner.Would you please give me some advice? Please come in...

I'm 33 years old and have been a unix c programmer for some years, but I 've not involved in any large project. Two months ago I moved from bank to a company related to internet and worked as a software engineer to asistant a sofeware company to develop a website. The software environment they're using is Solaris unix,oracle,java,c/c++,jsp,javabean,jdbc,applete,jbuilder,visibroker. I want to learn jsp ,javabean and oracle through reading the resource code .I've questions as following:
1. Do you think it'll be more efficient than just learn by myself?
2.Is the software environment above popular in Canada?
3.Will I be a quilified java programmer about a year later(I'll learn java by myself after next Feburary)?
4.I know English is also important and my English now is not strong enough to make living. I want to know: can I improve my English enough to get a job offer half a year after my landing?
Thanks in advance.
