那个Alice Munro 的帖找不到了. 答应楼主的功课上交一下

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Curling up at some corner of Muskoka, I read Dance of the Happy Shades, a collection of fifteen short stories. There is little something in each story touches my deep heart. It is all about individuals’ strength, endurance, and resilience. The two stories I liked most are Walker Brothers Cowboy and Dance of the Happy Shades.
In the first story (Walker), “my father” lost his fox farm due to economic downturn, and had to take a job of country sales, basically a pedlar knocking at backwoods kitchen. What strikes me is how the family keeps each other up. The mother feels the strain of the poverty, but holds up her dignity. The father, in a playful fashion, battles with his life hardship without giving up his love and dedication to family.

Dance of the Happy Shades is the title story. Miss Marsalles, is hosting a piano recital. Come on, most parents here have been to a piano recital. Where do you like the recital to be? A house in Rosedale, bungalow on Bank Street, or a townhouse with a sloping wooden partition along the railway embankment? Miss Marsalles had hosted her parties in all three places. Things change, but dance of the happy shades won’t!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
