Nursing系列之 Congratulations, Angela,

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛You did it with all your hard work.

Don’t worry about your job now. It is not too difficult to find at least a casual RN job as you’ve had your licence. You may work at whatever RN job you got first as a transition, and then move towards your goal. Take some clinical courses as you mentioned, and then try newspaper or internet ads, health care agents, job fairs, cold call from yellow pages whatever soon after, until you go through the interviews and get the job.

I am sure you can find your ideal job finally just like your dream came true today. For the beginning, it is always hard for foreign trained nurses, especially for language fluency, clinical adaptation and culture accommodation, but just keep going, and you will survive and win. If you just missed the refresher course I suggested, don’t regretted, and maybe you can try certain specialty courses such as ICU, maternity, pediatric, etc. later, if you would like to choose more stable hospital RN jobs. Stable nursing jobs in Canada are all about updating your knowledge and positive working attitudes. One suggestion is that you should try all your best to work in hospitals instead of nursing homes if you would like to become a community nurse in the future. As I know in BC, the community RNs must have both more than 3-year acute hospital working experience and Nursing Bachelor degree. What is more, the RN jobs in nursing homes become more and more unstable nowadays due to the government try to use more LPNs in nursing home instead of RNs for the cost saving.

As you agreed, I post the great news and answer your questions here just for encouraging the other Chinese nurses to reach their goals. Congratulations again.

Best wishes for your families. As I know, we could not do it without their support.

Yours truly
