Right now IT positon seems very competitive with so many laid off people out there. Maybe it is time to look into the other options.
As I see it, I think the followings could be good options, given bigger and bigger Chinese immigrant population.
1. Sales and Marketing
The Chinese population in Canada grows very fast. Companies need bilingual sales and marketing people to develop the market. Of course, you need good English skill, but bilingual skill is also your strength.
2. Administration
More and more emphasis on diversified work force in the corporate environment. Keep eye on those areas with fewer Chinese people. It may be a niche market there.
3. Management
It seems many people focus on technical positions. Lots of people feel management positions are not for Chinese people. That is not always the case. I found Chinese people are very smart and quick learners. Given opportunities, they can catch up very quickly and become good leaders. Of course, you need spend some time teaching yourself some management skills if you don't have MBA degree.
4. Government jobs
Government job is a very good option. Good benefits, stable and good pay. They make more efforts on diversification. Women, visible minority and disable people are in some advantadges getting those postions.
