老猫在纽约 (完)

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛As I was considering moving my whole family over, and my wife was going through her 2nd interview, something happened that changed the course.

One morning, I got an email from a senior technical person from the old company, saying they badly needed me back. I ignored that email. I was not sure what to say. Later in the morning, I got a call from another colleague, saying they just gave the company a notice of resignation. They said they wanted me in the new company – sounded like they partially owned it. If I would be interested in joining their pack, the compensations would be in six figures,, plus 5 weeks of training for the next how many years. I was laughing and called my wife. At that point, I did not take a serious consideration yet.

Until noon time, I got a call from my old boss. He was a New Yorker himself, graduated from Harvard. During his last year at school, he went to the famous Montreal Jazz festival and met a girl, who finally brought him home - Toronto. He was a very smart, funny and nice guy. Over the years, he was like an old friend to me. He asked about my current situation and if my new boss was treating me fairly. I told him that the new company was a fine place to work for; just I was still struggling in his home town to find a place to live. Then he asked me: “Hope you have not sold you house yet. Would you consider come back?” He did not push it, just asked me to give it a serious look and call him back.

I called my wife right away, saying that I could have an opportunity coming home - I trusted my boss. I talked to my friend at work. He understood my struggle and supported my decision. Then I called my boss back – saying I was not expecting him to match my current salary but I wanted a right position to make the workplace work for me. He did not promise but said he would try. Later I knew he had his own battle to fight to get me back. The following two years was my busiest time ever, but also quite a fulfilling experience. I gained enough credits in the group such that I can waste my time now on Rolia. I did not disappoint anyone in this process, except my new boss at NYC. When I told him that I was leaving, and going back to the company where I came from, he was totally shocked. I felt bad for him. But, anyway, I can’t care that much.

This sounds too easy that I gave up my U.S. adventure so quicky. Well, the truth is, it was an easy decision for me.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
