When I give an interview to a candidate, I will check his linkedin and facebook profile.. look at his professional history and accomplishements... i will call up my friends to ask a few questions.. It is just so easy now.. honesty will take you far...in this day and age, you just don't lie.. you can't lie without being caught eventually..
