  • 枫下沙龙 / 谈天说地 / My Dear Rolia friends, Please come in, yeah, that means everyone including Fat Piggy
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I read about someone's complain to Rolia on how he/she got ripped off by a computer shop ran by people who speaks cantonese, below are some of my random thoughts, do finish before you fire up

The problem is mutual, first of all, the wave of people from mainland now are mostly college/university educated, they came with a sense of pride and when these people, which includeds most of you, couldn't get a job in Canada, your pride gets develop into a inferiority complex, Northerner thinks Southerners, including people from HK, GuangDong, and the old immigrants are peasant and undereducated. Case in point, how many times you've seen a posting here on Rolia where a Northerner calls Hk people "uneducated thug".

There are a lot of hate amongst the chinese in toronto, now put down your pride and acknowledge the existence of others, stop assuming other people are uneducated, looking down on others will not get you any respect. the Honest truth, Education meant very little as a measure of success.

People from Hk hate because you are arrogant and unreasonable and not reasonable.

If you don't believe me then I will start posting the disgusting acts committed by our fellow chinaman

I am ringing this up on my labtop and at work, me sure it is itis full of mistakes ar...更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • 这个话题太敏感了,放在这里容易起争执。
    • I feel it improper to generalize. It is as improper to say new comers has "inferiority complex" as calling older residents "uneducated thug".
If we want to discuss it at all, we should focus on one incident instead of generalize. If someone has a bad experience with a certain shop, s/he has the right to alarm others; But everyone should refrain from generalize.
      • here's your incident, you tell me what's up with it
3 guys who speaks Mandarin went to this chinese food joint at brimley and sheppard, asked for Peking Duck, the deal is 7.88 per duck and Cash only, so ate the thing, then these three guys in their thirties insisted only paying by credit card, the waiter told them it's 13 bucks if paid by other means, guy goes "don't you fool me, who told you I can't pay by gold visa, this is canada, there are laws" the whole argument went on for like an hour, annoyed everyfuckingbody in the place.

I was stunned and appalled, there you have it...
        • Let me tell you another story which happens with my co-worker, who is Scotish by descent.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛He bought something in a store and want to pay by his Amex card. Although amex card is on the sign at the counter, the sales rep said, " Sir, we would rather you use another card". So my colleague produced his Mastercard. And again the salesman said, "Sir, do you have a visa?" At this point my co-worker put his mastercard back into the wallet, and throw the Amex card on the counter, " I have points on this card, either you accept this card, or you don't have my business". The amount in point is petty, the store want to save on different discount rates of credit cards, the customer want to get his points. But when the store tried to get its way in a sly way, the customer was pissed off.

Back to your story, it is natual for someone who hasn't been a frequent patron of Chinese restaurant to assume credit cards are accepted. When the restaurant suggests they will charge 65% more if customers don't pay by cash, of course the customer thinks he is being ripped off. So that's what you mean by "Notherners having too much pride": your ideal chinaman should obediently run out and get some cash from the bank machine and pay the damn bill. But wait, the restaurant run by old timers like piggy also have too much pride: They have a lot of pride in sticking to their payment policy, (by penalizing rogue customers with a 65% premium), even at the cost of upsetting other customers with a one hour argument.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • Welcome to Rolia, 虽然很多时候你挺讨厌的。
      • You can't handle the truth, little boy
        • 你上帖还挺积极,看来你对大陆同胞还挺有感情的。不过你说话太刺耳太露骨了,还老啊啊说话不利索。
          • hey, now you are attacking my personal integrity ar, It's my speech pattern ar, how would you like it if I comment on your thick accent ar? Me is Objective,
the real thing is usually very ugly, for examply, the Gettysburg Address, It was over glorified by people like you, the truth is, it was delievered on a rainly day, had a cracked podium and the whole damn thing only lasted for about two minutes, the witnesses accounted that they could barely hear the guy since he had a thick southern accent...

            blah blah blah ar
            • I didn't expect you are so sensative. Whatever, good luck and thank you for your contribution.
              • yayaya, if everyone can keep their cool like my pal Ely here, then the world would be a better place
                • 不过...你到底是什么东东?好怪异的。
    • slimpiggy, stop there and listen to me...
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I'm from a nice little town in southern China. I have been living in Toronto long enough to see the gradual change of local Chinese community. I understand your point. But do you really think that people from Mainland China dislike HK people in general simply because of their "inferiority complex"? Have you ever thought why they are standoff HK people in particular? People like you and me are just ordinary people. If you are nice to me, I'll be nice to you. If you ever helped me, maybe just a small thing, I'll remember your kindness, and tell people around me how nice you are. Now tell me honestly, have you ever done anything to help a new comer from mainland? Have you ever looked at them without bias? Have you ever experienced the tough situation they are currently facing to? If the answer is no, then could you say something positive, something encouraging, something warm, instead of scold them for their "pride"? When you see "disgusting acts committed by our fellow chinaman", I'm wondering what kind of magic keeps disgusting acts committed by HK people transparent to you. If all you do is hurting people, how could you possibly earn respect?

Now don't argue with me. Think. Think carefully.

There's one more thing I must point out. DO NOT ever use the word "chinaman". It's a word that European used to insult Chinese a century ago. It's like call a black man "nigger". I can forgive you for anything. But if you purposely call Chinese "chinaman", I will not only paint "uneducated thug" on you forehead, but also I will fight you to death.

I have some really good friends from HK. You, however, won't be one of them.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • I gave your posting a second good read, come in, let's talk
the amount of free time I have allows me to think about your posting...

I am not countering you since what you said is basically agreeing with me

I am not ashamed to say that I have helped new comers in every aspects I can. When I was growing up, things were different in this town, not that many Northerners, if any, Hk and Southern immigrants dominates the community. I am used to people taking a shower everyday, I am used to the idea of dealing with clean and well-groomed people.

You are a southerner just like my family, you have to understand things like personal Hygiene is a big deal. Appearance is important, some discussions had gone on in the forum about whether you should put on a suit in a formal setting or not, that's not even a question, it's axiomatic

I just realize that my writing's getting dull from not crafting professionally for six months, me sure me not even coherent ar
        • 你到底是什么东东?
          • He is a friend with different background, that's all.
          • Good Piggy
    • you have your point
I believe you want to trigger some positive changes among Chinese immigrant, but the response you get so far are not positive. Even you have all the right points, you need to make them taken by expressing in a more mutual way. agree?

BTW, get rid of ar, ya, please.
      • It's OK with ar ya, it's his trademark.
        • me sorry if you don't like me speech pattern ar, when I was growing up in Scarborough back in the days,
me sorry if you don't like me speech pattern ar, when I was growing up in Scarborough back in the days, my friends wanted to me to identify meself as a hardcore chinaman, which I am, so there you have it.

demanding a personal to change his way of speaking is unreasonable, it's like asking Georgie Bush to stop talking like a idiot.

some say the man is depriving a village somewhere of its idiot.

your feedbacks are greatly appreciated, me insist on speaking the things the way they are, without any polish nor exaggeration, the truth is cold, harsh and most of the time unpleasant.
          • it seems you are very weird.
            • yeah, Piggy's weird, lock him/her up, put Piggy in a cage and bury it alive You've read the Modest Purposal one time too much, I don't like Him/her so put them away, just like Hilter killing the Jews
              • Hey, don't be a extremist. This is not the manner most Rolia friends want to see. I think all of us have the responsibility to make Rolia a harmonic place.
            • The Modest Purposal is mostly published work in the world, even more so than the Christian Bible, it is a black humor piece standing from an english noble's point of view and suggesting to kill away the Irishes
so that the protestents would stop annoying the "noble" english race.
              • This Piggy is unbelivably stupid, the above should read "TheModestPurposal is the most-published work of all time"
          • You are funny, stubborn piggy..And we really appreciate your different voice here.
