wide board look nicer, but, big BUT is there is far less tree bigger than 5inch to saw off than 3inch, hence poorer quality tree has to be used to get 5inch board, hence poorer quality

I would use engineered board. Way more tolerance to humidity than solid. My floor was soaked twice when it is unfinished because we forgot to close the window in a construction site,

still look the same! Quality engineer wood is more expensive than solid. I paid 50 cents more per sq ft for engineered.
