ez, your chinese passport always has an expiry date, right? when you try to renew it in local chinese embassy/consulate, the 'officer' will assume a canadian immigrant with, say,

5yr residence history, as ca citizen. if you want to deny their assumption, then show them proof from cic that you are not a ca citizen.
The thing is that you will not keep your chinese passport if you are a canadian. But you can still keep your hukou if you don't tell them.
