how about your location? I heard some apartments in North York are around 850 for one bdr, and not old buildings. maybe the apartments with this price are old in downtown. I'm not sure.

it's the general rule that you should sign one year contract if you want to rent an apartment by yourself.

Apartment is surely better choice , but you should mind the location and direction.Many buses are scheduled every 20 minutes or longer, that may be a problem during winter .

And aslo, personally I prefer rooms facing north.my own room is facing east, and every bright morning the sunlight make it an oven!
