If anyone have installed oracle8i on linux?
I install it through the x-window.
It's a little more complicate than in WINNT.And it cost long time!
And I have some privilege problem.Only Oracle installer who is in system DBA group can use 'sqlplus' in the command line and access database. But when I installed it , I just granted the priviileges to DBA user group.
I want to grant some privileges to any other linux system user who are in DBA user group on linux .
I installed it again and again for many times.
But it has the same problem.I use the Linux red hat 6.1.
How can I do ? It's hard that it haven't the GUI managment on Linux. :-(
    • I often install Oracle8i or Oracle8 on Unix It is ok for other user of Unix no matter it is in DBA user group or not. You can try...
Try to set some in the user's .profile or .cshrc ENV_files.(you must set the ENV_PARAMETER like oracle_sid ; oracle_home and so on)
      • Yes, sure, I configed the ENV_PARMETER like oracle_sid and oracle_home and so on in user's .profile
By the way, I have installed oracle8 on linux before. It's no problem .
        That's very strange.
And the installation way of oracle8i is very different from oracle8. I download the installation guide from www.oracle.com.
It wil fail if I don't install like that. You have to install it in x-window. And switch to command line for several times ....
        I am thinking it ...
That's ok . I just found another way to grant the web client user can run the CGI application to access the database.
