  • 工作学习 / 事业与工作 / Londoner: My interview days
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My first job with the Canadian company, two hours interview with HR and my boss. Worked with them for a year, then eyed on a second job. My second job interview started from 9am and didn't finish until 5pm, long day talking to 11 people! A real marathon, cause they wanna make sure I could handle all the heavy load management stuff. My smile was frozen at the end of the day. I have never been asked a technical question through out the interviews. Both Fortune 100 companies, both good offers.

Tip for the new immigrants: personality! team work! Keep in mind, you are not a perfect guy, but you are a good team player! You are fun to be with! Show your humor! Show your human side!

I read a lot of resumes which emphasis his/her independent projects. Think it for yourself: if you can do a project all by yourself, what's the scale of the project? Big deal! With almost any ongoing projects in the corporations, team work is vital.

Also, don't lable yourself to a fixed role. You are a good soldier if they want to throw you in to a platoon. You will act up as a captain if they need you to steer a boat.

Just my two ounces. Good luck, guys!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛We can often draw brief conclusion about someone after just one meeting. Why? We observe others' behavior all the time. Same to us, we are observed all the time. Let's just assume one simple scenario. You go to an interview. The interviewer prepare some questions. Each time he/she asks you one questions, you give a well structured answer. Good, huh? But wait, did you put your personality into your answer? "What did you do in that e-biz project in your resume?" "Well, I applied such and such techniques, used such and such design, spend so-so long time, it is a great project, blah, blah." Any personality? No. Now see this answer: "that was a very interesting project and a great challenge to us. Our project team had various skills, but didn't work together before that. So we started by the requirement gathering and analysis. I had had experience in such and such, so I contributed a lot in this field. I also coordinated such and such activities. Through the project, I also learned such and such. The project brought so-so amount of value to our company. I think we could have done better should we do such and such. " It often helps yourself to relax during the interview by sending the question back to the interviewer, like, "what do you think the most important to e-biz project? which part do you like the most? what kind of project dynamics do you have in your group?" Sometimes, you may feel stucked by the question. Don't mess yourself in the jungle. Get out of it quickly. E.g., "John and I did that part together. John is a key member of our team, you know, we are good friends because we both like watching hocky. BTW, Maple won again last night. Did you see the game?" Once you find common topic with the interviewer, keep on it. Don't let him bring you back to the detailed technical question. Remember, he is talking about something he has dealt with for months even years. In most cases, he is an expert but you are not. So, don't trap yourself by trying to "compete" with him.
Well, so long. Got to go. Good luck, guys!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
          • 难怪你总能得到财富100强的OFFER。
      • Which Canadian company is in the futune 100?
        • both are US Fortune 100 in Canada, not Canadian companies.
    • renew, good points
    • Your opinion is pretty instructive . we all know the importance of team work spirit . however , how can we show our team-work spirit while not being so humble in the interviews ?! Thank you in advance .
