  • 工作学习 / 事业与工作 / Mastering Layoff in 24 hours -- Part 1 (proofreadings are welcomed)

Sam’s words caught my attention. When I looked up, he’s already gone. Meeting? I wonder what’s that about. I began to think about those rumors. Due to the bad market, the company is losing money. Obviously, the only solution is cutting the working force. It already becomes a fashion for IT companies now. That means … layoff! I cannot continue my work and begin to think about whom in our team would be sacrificed? Eg, senior consultant, worked in the company for more than 4 years and is a very skillful programmer. Tim, senior architect and designer. The company couldn’t run without him. Dave, senior consultant, the most skillful guy in the company. Mike, a consultant who just finished a very big project and received bonus for his outstanding performance. And me, a freshout and just joined the company several months ago. I have bad feelings.

In ten minutes, Sam walked in and said: “Ok, guys, let’s move.” “What’s the meeting about?” Someone asked. “I have no idea.” Sam just shrugged.

I left my quarter, got a pop and walked into the big boardroom. Our CEO is standing there. He is even smiling and waving to me. That’s a good signal. I have met him three times. He is short, always wearing a nice suit. He has a very gentle voice and always smiling while giving a speech.

“Hello everybody. Nice to see you again. Today’s company meeting is very important so I want to make sure nobody is missing….” “Where is Cathy?” Sam looked around and raised the question. “She won’t be with us anymore.” The CEO answered quietly, “ and I am going to talk more about it.” People in the room begin to exchange puzzled expressions and try to find out who else is missing.

    “Where is Eg?” I thought.
