Dont do that. They would be very curious about what is inside cause they couldnt look though by their instrument. They might ask u to open that.I dont think it is a big deal just take it with you, put in a bag or so.

per my experience, they didn't do that. they only concern that looks like some dangerous, like my dish knives. and actually, they have no interest on checking new immigrant's luggage too carefully.

Well, though I dont have such experience. One person who took the same airline with me had met this. He just put some CDs inside it, then the Customers asked him to open the box again and again, both in Canada and China.
