Not long ago, I posted here a C++ question to seek discussion. One response I saw is
    as follows:

    这种语法问题, 以后还识别问了吧, 层次太低了一点.

Actually, I had the answer as I posted my question. I hope our guest won't post such responses any more.

(By the way, I had the answer before I posted my C++ question).
    • ERP:Short for enterprise resource planning, a business management system that integrates all facets of the business, such as planning, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.
    • Web Portal:
A Web site or service that offers a broad array of resources and services, such as e-mail, forums, search engines, on-line shopping malls. By now most of the
      traditional search engines have transformed
themselves into Web portals to attract and keep a larger audience.
    • Scable
      (1) A popular buzzword that refers to how well a
hardware or software system can adapt to increased demands. For example, a scalable network system would be one that can start with just a few nodes but can easily expand to thousands of nodes. Scalability can be a very important feature because it means that you can invest in a system with confidence you won't outgrow it.

      (2) Refers to anything whose size can be changed. For example, a font is said to be scalable if it can be represented in different sizes.
    • Interoperability - The ability of software and hardware on different machines from different vendors to share data.
      • Oop! wrong. Roughly speaking, interoperability means "exchangability", or "replacibility".
I give an example using JDBC. Let me say we build a Java project using JDBC technology, with MySQL being the back-end.

Suddenly, our client changes its mind and wants to use Oracle as back-end. Because we have used JDBC, it is relatively easy for us to meet the cilent's requirement. We
set up Oracle, replace JDBC driver, modify some parameters in the configuration files. Voila...la, we are done. WE DO NOT NEED MODIFY OUR CODE.

Such a fact is called interoperability. It means you can replace some components using others without a big modification, in particular in your code.
    • Turn-key system
A computer system that has been customized for a particular application. The term derives from the idea that the end user can just turn a key and the system is ready to go. Turnkey systems include all the hardware and software necessary for the particular application. They are usually developed by OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) who buy a
computer from another company and then add software and devices themselves.
      • Ely, thank you for offering so many excellent explanations.
Honestly speaking, there is no trun-key solutions. But those companies like to use "turn-key solutions" to buzz their products.
    • EDI -
Short for Electronic Data Interchange, the transfer of data beween different companies using networks, such as the Internet. As more and more companies get connected to the Internet, EDI is becoming increasingly important as an easy mechanism for companies to buy, sell, and trade information. ANSI has approved a set of EDI standards known as the X12 standards.

    • CRM stands for Customer relationship management, the leader is siebel. ERP system, SAP's R/3 and Oracle Application are No. 1 and two, SAP is a german company.
    • More detatild on CRM
CRM is a hot issue now to enterprises. It helps to change the strategies of enterprises from product focused to customer focused.

It is a complicated system which focuses on Service, Sales, Market aspects which are tightly relative with customers of an enterprises. All data is combined together around cusotomers. So an enterprise can provide personal service to customers to improve its service level, revenue from sales, more statistics and reporting for make marketing decisions.

It is a circular system composed of compaign management, customer interaction management, data collection and mining, customer value estimation.

I am a skilled consultant on CRM. If you have some question, pls call me on the forum.
      • Babi, thank for your expert explanations
Indeed, CRM is a complicated system. I gave a small, interesting example here.

7-11 is a very famous chain-store in North America. A few years, its sales experts did
some investigations and found out that more women than men buy condoms. Consequently, 7-11 decided to move condoms from men's accessories to the shelves for cosmetics. This is just a small case.

Some novices think one can become a programmer once they master Java basics.
Things are not so simple. One needs to know some business. Of course, as more as possible. If one just knows for-loop, while-loop, Hashtable, he/she still has a way to go.

Being an IT professional, one needs to learn, leran, learn again... unitil he/she quits.
        • You hit the point. The business consideration is really important when you are selling solutions to customers. The customer thinks it is valuable since the solution can bring them the improvement of business but not the detail of technique itsself.
      • Hi, Bibi, nice to know u. I got my SAP CRM 2.0 consultant certify in Oct. My major is SAP R/3 application consulting.
        • Nice to know you too. So, you are working in SAP? I think SAP CRM is advantageous on integrating with back end system, especially with R/3 system. But it is real chanlleging that there is little case of SAP CRM in China
