xcin? I don't know. Check Chinese-Howto at LDP. I never bother to figure out how to input Chinese on Linux/Unix. I think windows has much better language support.

One other important thing is that you better patch it immediately. I've heard story saying that a stock installation of redhat got hacked in less than 2 weeks after putting it on the Internet.
But I think it was impossible for me to keep on switching between Linux and Windows while operate Linux and read documents in windows......

Oh, for reading Chinese is easy. Just download a new version of mozilla. But its font is ugly. Very ugly.
