  • 工作学习 / IT杂谈 / Quit to study or Keep labor job?
    本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛HI, Jabber,

Nice to talk with you and other friends.

I am a new immigrant and am working in a factory as a labour worker. In China, I am a computer engineer, although I havenot a bachalor of CS. After landing in Canda, I feel the life is hard for me. So I chose a general labour work to survive, meanwhile, I posted my resume on internet.

2 months has passed, and I just got several meetings with agencies and one interview with US company by phone. In the last month, the bell is quiet, so I am worried about my future. Last week, my friend found a professional job and suggested for quitting the present work and study some advanced knowlege of JAVA. He got the job as a JAVA programmer.

I am think it over and consider too much, so far, i havenot decided whether I quit. You know, I have to ern money to release the financial pressure.

By the way, I am applying for the position of C++ software developer. According to the preceding information, Could you give me some valubale opints?

    Thanks

    Your Sincerely,

    George更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • Dear George, it is so hard to give your useful suggestions
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Here is my way of thinking and making decision. Of course, I always hope I can succeed. I always do the following calculation: If I fail, how much will I lose?

Even if you have some deposits, I sugguest
work for 2-3 days each week before you get an IT job. Of course, if you have a big sum of money, you may go to the school directly.
By the way, if you want to become a Java guy by attending some training school, you are taking big risk.

I don't know how good your skill is. In Canada, if you do have strong skills in some field, it should be only an issue of time for you to get an IT job.

By the way, I think your resume organization is problematic. I suggest you get a Chinese IT friend around you and ask him/her to help you with modifying it. Definitely, you need to refine your resume because you got very few interviews.

I have ever been out of job before I became a programmer. During that time, I helped one of my friends to sell computers on weekend.
He paid me $100 each day and I cannot emphasize the importance of that money too much. Without income, the bank deposit was descreasing so fast!

For some people, it will take longer time to get a satisfactory life in Canada. This is not because they are stupid, or because they don't strive hard. The reason is simple: They are not so lucky. You have been in Canada juts for 2 months. You are still in the normal categories.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • Why is that a big tisk, if I take JAVA class?
        Dear Jabber,

Thank you for responding so quickly.
In the first seraching month, I obtained some meetings but after those meetings, I thought my resume didnot focus on a special field. I described myself as a versatile guy and later recognized that was not good, so Nov. early, I refined it and focus my projects on C++ field and delete some unfamiliar skills. But the reponse was not much.

I have friends but the guys are JAVA guys, they advised me to study JAVA since I have strong C++ background. ACtually, they are not familiar with C++.SO could you check my resume? If you promise it , How can I do?

Moreover, Could you expain t for me why it is taking a risk for study JAVA in a short-period class.

        Thanks

        Yours truly,

        George
        • Since you are a true C++ programmer, you should be able to get a job
As a Java programmer, one needs to have hands-on experiences. Most training centers do not have lab time. Their students know some Java concepts but lack ability to code and configure the system. Of course, take such courses can help for a person like you, because you have a good background.
If you really want to become a programmer, I suugest you spend more time on playing Java at home.

I strongly suggest you ask your Java friend help you refine your resume. I would like to help you, but I don't think I could give you much useful advice. This kind of things need popele to talk face-to-face.
