本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛U know what, after a long time struggle, I choosed what I original wanted now, to pursue my MBA dream. Surprised? 'cause last time I mentioned to you that, I switched to IT field, but only one mth later, I changed my mind. Since I was here, I have changed my mind for so many different directions, first for accounting, then bachelor in Western Ontario, no money no talk, then changed to CMA, certified Management Accountant, then, IT field, finally, 9 mths later, I made up my mind to go for my MBA degree. But most possibility is, I will try hard to get enrol in the state's MBA.

Let's say this way, just like love story. If in ur heart, sb occupies the most important place, u're always thinking of her/him. Just because of some practical difficulties, u can't go for her/him. But u always regard it a big pitty in ur life. So, maybe one day, finally, once u make up ur mind, u will go for her/ him. No matter it's good or bad, u won't regret. Just like my MBA dream. When I first arrived here, the first night, fr the airport to home, my friend educated me a lot on how hard for a MBA to find a job here, how useless to pursue a MBA, how big the language and cultural barriers, how difficult to melt urself into the local society, how naive the idea of MBA is, bla bla bla,,, God, after that, according to my real experience, my roomate, who is a MBA fr Austrilia, couldn't find a job after 8mths, now she is still searching, ...... All of these, forced by the cruel reality, I have to adjust my plan, once and once. But, in my deep heart, there is still the voice of MBA there, as I still keep a space for it. So,,,,

Finally, I decided to choose the state's MBA, and will try to get a satisfied GMAT score. U know what, I even thought of going back to BJ to enrol new oriental school, as it's so famous for its high quality exam preperation. But my best friend, who is studying MBA in UBC, told me that, GMAT is not EVERYTHING. Working experience, essay, recommendation letters, are also very very important. So, a middle level GMAT score doesn't mean u couldn't enrol those famous business schools. In his class, there are also many students whose GMAT score are below 700, 650, even 600, but with abundant working experience, and showing high potentail of management skills, whatever. He suggested me to stay in Canada, to accumulate more local working experience, and prepare GMAT at the same time. To try an okay GMAT score and prepare other supplementary meterials well.

He said, "lumlum, u belong to MBA, so u should go for it." He knows me well, and I am that kind of personal, who is better at dealing with people than dealing with computer, or machine, so, I can't just choose a popular field to find a job comparatively eaiser than choose sth I am really very interested in.

All of these, can reflect a new immigrant's Canadian dream here. I belive there are so many friends facing the same painful choice as me. I am quite lucky that, I have a job now which is good for drawing future resume as it's a quite big company in the financial field. So, I can think my future development seriously based on quite stable current life.

I just picked up a few books bought fr China for GMAT fr my packed box. As I cancelled this plan already. It will take me at least several mths to prepare. Especially I have to prepare it after work. SO how I wish I had already done good preparation in China! That would be much better, without tough survival stress here.

It snowed last week. Toronto is quite cold now. But when I think of my great plan, and I am working for that, I always feel warm and happy. Wish me good luck.

Hope when u come here, I already get my okay GMAT score. Then I will buy u a good dinner. xixixixi..... ^_^

Talk to u later, & don't know when. Take care and enjoy ur happy life.

    • it took me half an hour to find your letter.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛was in a chaotic city. huge police dogs stared at passangers in airport and hotel. More terrible, they sent me two body guards during my stay in Manila!! i was put into car immediately after passing the custom even wasn't given a chance to walk around. no difference from kidnap. :-( it's the last city i want to revisit.

well, seems Sailor's persuasion doesn't work for you. i guess u r much of an art-minded person with dreams. there is no wonder that you change your minds frequently for the sake of dream. :-) and it's true that it takes time to know about yourself, the person you are born with.

someone says: "be what you want to be and do what you want to do". following your heart, not the trend, will guide you toward success which pays off your pain. Only one small remind: be happy no matter what you are pursuing. all we are doing is to make us happy, not upset or nervous. it's up to you to be joyful, not the degree, salary, position, etc. The ultimate purpose of life is to smile at God when we finally return to his paradise. So, do whatever you dream of and enjoy the experiences!

Good luck, my lovely bell!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • why did u go there? For business, or visit? Sounds horrible, I thought I was watching an exciting movie, like MI2.....
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Have been waiting for your reply for a long time, thank god, u did reply finally. I had though u disappeared suddenly. Just for fun, I changed my nickname. For friends, they could always recognize me no matter what name I am using. So, don't be surprised. Is it a cool name? xixi, just stole fr my closest friend.

So u will come over next spring? Do u confirm ur date? Do u have any question other than hunting a job? Is there anything I could help? Why didn't ask me for hints, I mean jobs? U read my words before. Here are some further infor.:

It's really tough for u to find a mgmt job here. THe chance is so little. 'cause u don't have any local experience, no matter how good ur background is. But, if u do have a local people recommend u, for say, he / she knows that some company is hiring , and u are the right person. U will have higher possibility to get a job. Here, in Canada , people do depend on relationship, which is a kind of credit. If u don't have anybody who could recommend u, it's really hard.

Then go to the agency, which could introduce temporary or contract jobs for you. Keep it in mind, no matter how short the job will be, just do it. Never choose the job, in order to accumulate CANADIAN WORKING EXPERIENCE. The more people learn about u, the more jobs opportunities u would get. Believe me.

I am working in the financail field. If u are very interested in this field, if my company is hiring at that time, for sure will recommend u without doubt. If u don't care to start fr the very beginning. (Like me ) In this industry, u have to get some certificates, to make urself marketable, like CANADIAN SECURITIES COURSE, which I am studying. It's made up of two assignments, and one final exam. It takes a lot of time on reading, and analysing. If u could get it, it's much easier to find a job. Another certificate is about mutual fund industry, just for ur referrence. I pass the CANADIAN INVESTMENT FUND OPERATION COURSE exam on last August, which is not hard. It's quite helpful in mutual fund industry. 'cause I am working in a mutual fund company. There are so many other exams waiting for u, if u are interested. U know, toronto is a financial centre, so there are more job opportunities in this industry than others. So, u could consider about it, right?

Okay, finally, thx for ur words which increased my confidence in pursueing my MBA dream. Will go for it. Wish u good luck too.

It's so hard to work and study at the same time. But working experience is also important for MBA application.
        Will see.

Got to go now. Sailor said, ur letter to map looks like a private letter. It doesn't matter. As long as we could keep in touch. Any question, u could keep asking.

Take care, and have a good night. lumlum Dec 01 /00 toronto更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

Someone used my laptop when i was away. many thanks for ur suggestions/experiences. I'll get prepared for the tough life there. however, i'm blind to figures. financial job may drive me mad. :-) anyway, 车到山前总有路

Still no firmed date of landing yet. my stay in Toronto will depends on my business. it's possible that i have to return to China several months after landing. will let u know the plan when things going on.

will travel to a northeast China in the following 2 weeks. have u ever been there?

          take care,

          • Crazy about traveling, & have been to a lot of places,,,,
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Like, Jiuzaigou, chengdu, xinjiang, tibet, kunming, hangzhou, ningbo, suzhou, wuhan, BJ, SH, xiamen, fuzhou, nanchang, wuyishan, sanya,,,, and so on, but never been to dongbei, but I heard that, dalian and qidong are very beautiful cities, to which I should visit. So, maybe in the future.

Oh, sb stole ur nickname to enter here, that's why it looks a little bit strange. I should trust my direct feeling.

U are working at a marketing and sales dept, or u are also a IT guy? I don't think u talked about it before. But seems that u are successful in doing business, aren't u? I believe so. xixi,,,,

What do u think about my new name, is it cool? My friend wants to log in as lumlum as I stole his nick name.

Christmas is coming, but I don't feel as happy as those shopping animals, 'cause I am only thinking about how can I improve my score in GMAT, do u have any tips for me? I'm so worried about that. 'cause I couldn't make up my mind to quite my job and study full time.

Give u an early christmas regard, and another successful year for 2001.

            • firerock is not a 'cool' name...
it's heat! honestly speaking, i do prefer u have a graceful name to match you. anyway it's up to u.

Seems u r a representative of a pager company -- covered so many cities! haha! tell me what impressed you most in all these places?

Sometimes i can't tell which city i am in. they are almost the same. Now when I return to GZ, thing is even worse -- i'm confused by the weather that what the following season will be, summer or winter.

Okay, time for OT. Talk 2 u later,
              Map
              • okay, map, I am using my own name now, maybe this name is more suitable for me, isn't it?
Have many stories for each trip, so hard to describ them to you one by one here, but I have many photoes for each trip, when the time u come here, maybe I could show you. Then it will be easier.

I always took a lot of OT when I was in GZ. I have been there. But as it's a job I loved, I enjoyed it, though it's free. Now, for my current job, I get pay for any OT, actually I don't like this boring, simple job, anyway, job is job, and I have to survive. I am lucky to have a job. So, just trying my heart to prepare for GMAT.

You are a sales guy, aren't you? Alwasy go out for business trips, just like me before. I spent almost half of my time on business trips, which kept me not too fat. xixi...

okay, have to study now, chat to you later.

Have a nice day! Lumlum ^_^
                • Just back to office from a long trip.
It's awful to travel for a long time. i mean, for business. the flight always delayed. last friday, i waited for my flight more than 4 hours at an airport!

If my memory is right, you used to work for marketing or something similar, giving presentations and so on? It's really important to work for a job you do enjoy. If your current job is just too boring to motivate you, it's time for you to think about change. So, keep on focusing efforts on MBA if you think it your goal to be a business woman in the bustling business world or to be a MRS. For either goal, pursuing MBA sounds worthy though it costy. i believe you've already had your own plan.

As for my job, well, it's not sales according to traditional definition. we provide services to some international organizations, services including IT, HR, capital investment and so on.

what's ur plan for the coming X'Mas holiday? don't be too homesick during holiday. :-)

                  • Merry Christmas and happy new year!
                    本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Hi, map,

Your mail reminds me a lot about my previrous job in China, 'cause I always traveled around south china, several provinces. And I loved that job, actually. It's a kind of marketing, and sales job. And I learned a lot from the job, not only marketing sales skills, but also the operation and control procedure of a big multinational company. I believe it will definitely be benefit of my future development.

For my next step plan, I have already made up my mind to pursue MBA. So I just started preparing GMAT. And it's so long a way to go. Anyway, won't change it, 'cause I am really suitable for business, I think, which I would enjoy a lot.

About Christmas, I don't have any specific plan yet, but I do have a wonderful plan for new year's Eve. For sure, it will be Great Time.
Now I still have homesick, but fortunately it couldn't bother me as much as before. Thanks for your regards, and how about you? Any special plan, party, or shopping, ( boxing day), or sth else. I believe GZ will be very crowded.

I know it's time for me to move on, thanks for reminding, but it takes time. Will tell you good news, if I am lucky.

Okay, talk to you later. Good luck.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

                    • Berry cherry Christmas!
you can have a fruitful Christmas if you were here in this small island.

It's the youngest volcano island in North Bay. very peaceful village with miles of silver sand. Most important, there is no tourist. u can enjoy the whole ocean and shore by yourself. wear whatever you like, or even wear nothing. Paradise is no better than here. (what a frog's point of view!)

                      Write 2 u later.

                        Hi, map.

You are so happy. I jealous you! I am almost leaving. Everybody seems happy too. They hug, they say " merry christmas" everywhere, they laugh, they chat.... I can't even focus on what I am doing. Everytime when I want to proceed sth, sb just comes to my desk, say hi, hug, laugh, chat,,,, I do really enjoy the holiday atmosphere. Everyone is so friendy, and happy. Last night we have a christmas party, and I drank a lot, different kinds of cocktail, which are my favorit. Fortunately I didn't get drunk. And I danced a lot also. Have fun.

It's a white world here, totally different feeling from what you are enjoying. It's not so cold. And it's so beautiful for the snowing scene. We got more and more work at the end of one year. Just in a rush to meet deadline. Have to get it done by next Friday. So, will have a lot of overtime next week.

Anyway, you have a really wonderful christmas and happy new year.

                        lumlum ^_^
    • Hug! Hugs! Merry Christmas, my best jingle bell!
      • Happy Boxing day! lumlum^_^
How's your boxing day? Still on vocation, in that mysterious and beautiful island?

For me, staying home, watching TV, listening to music, and going to internet.

Don't have any intention to go for boxing day shopping.

So excited to wait for tomorrow. The feeling is so fantastic. Can't wait any more.

        Happy boxing day, lumlum
        • u r absolutely right.
just back to office and normal life. the line there was not very good and, to be honest, no intent to touch any telecom devices in such a virgin beach. once i got a 1kg-crab from the fishman. how exciting! really really relaxed!

how was your new year eve? what was your big plan?
may i know what made u 'excited' and 'can't wait'?

Happy new year! (it's still new, isn't it?)
