    • The Par is the designated # of strokes that the gold course is suited for, Pros use 72 strokes for a full course, Newbies use 80 stokes par, Handicap is the diff between par and your actually scroe -slimpiggy(瘦猪犹如插翅虎); 2001-8-20 {169} (#173757@0)
      My handicap is 8, that means I finish the course with 80 stokes.

      Do keep in mind that to be up to Par, you have to play everday,

      Pros will get below par, sometimes

        3. why handicap is introduced? they can simply sum the stroke for
        each single hole and get the total strokes, do they?

          For game course, by which I mean the formal ones, it's always 72 storkes.

          2. always 18 holes for a full games, there are 9 holes-game to save time which I played regularly, people will mention the 19th hole occasionally, that's the snack bar at the end of the game, or after the game, MEET YOU AT THE 19TH, meaning see you in the bar for a drink

          3. Nobody I know plays up to Par, say Hole 1, is 550 yards, it's a 4 stroke hole, to get up to par, you have to play everyday like the pros do, the British Masters game had a final score of 2 above par. In fact, I don't know anybody in my firm who has a single digit handicap, my golf coach is handicapped at 5 above

            5. it is always mentioned 1/2 worst hole or something
            in the instruction, what does it mean by 1/2 hole?

            • Half Stroke is a term when you calculate the handicap score, YOUR HANDICAP IS NOT A ABSOLUTE SCORE, since every course has a difficulty rating, therefore if you were 6 below in one course might mean -slimpiggy(瘦猪犹如插翅虎); 2001-8-20 {246} (#173825@0)
              that you are on an easy course. so to calculated the Callaway Handicap which is rather complex, you need to take the score on the course, and the rating of the course, and round the off, that's where the half stroke kicks in.
