r u using rogers at home? i jsut watched tv... it says they got a lot complains recently. the company athome hit 40cents today on nasdaq. their service was not good recently.

一个是给WINDOWS的,一个给我的UNIX。有两天也是老报“dhcp server unreachable”,问ROGERS的人,好象根本不懂技术。好在自己瞎折腾。既然很多人用ROGERS,我提议大家讨论一下,把问题弄弄清楚。记得以前有过讨论,但不深。最好是有在ROGERS工作的DX来帮助一下。
How comes? DHCP means Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, you get one IP when your computer is link to the the DHCP server. You may have different IP at different time, but you can only own one IP at one time.

IT depends. Personaly I do not think they would do this.

But you are given one IP address so except you have a proxy server installed on your computer, there is only one guys can get connect to the cable. Same applies to modem.
That's the place problems reside in. And I think no one can make it clear here except he or she is technical guy in ROGERS.

I tried shaw@home and I think they do not do any work on identifying users.

You are right. I guess so. For my unix, I even didn't provide the "ID". It's ok too.

They (shaw@home in my case) use MAC address of the cable modem to identify user.

Rogers use at@home. at@home will be out of business soon. Look at their stock price in NASDAQ. It keeps on drop 23% for two days. now, only 0.47, even worse than sohu.
