  • 枫下家园 / 电脑用户 / SOS, seeking help from experts, preferably data recovery experts, but any thoughts are appreciated
This thing just happened today, I have two HDs, c:17G, D:40G, I was extracting files in d:, and system resource ran out and the machine hung, after I reboot, C: starts to run real slow and making major noises, I think it's physcially damaged. But the data on C: is accessible and can be copied out (17G)

my D:, which I assume is not damaged, has major file structure problem, all 40G of data are not accessible, it has everything I need to function as a normal person, contains digital address book of 150 contacts, and all of my works

I am seeking data recovery software, please lend a hand

    any advice is greatly appreciated
    • I just searched google using "data recovery" and seems there're some helpful stuff. Please try to search it.
      • thanks I am doing that, I am using the old machine 233mmx to surf, my new one is completely dead, 555555555 data recovery experts, where are you????
    • Try plug in that 40G as a second HD in another box (eg. your old 233MMX). Also note the jump and that the file system should be matched as it was in C:, FAT32 for Win98 and NTFS for WinNT.
      • For an old mother board used in mmx 233, I guess it won't recognize 40GB HD.
        • yeah, it won't read, thank though
          • look for another box, sorry i am using Pentium200, even older than yours, mine can't help you with that 40G neither.
    • Try this software http://www.soft999.com/download1/ERPERFUS.EXE
      • thanks man, the problem is that I don't have a working OS right now, my trouble is: I can't boot up, so how do I use this software you are recommanding?
    • find another computer in good condition , plug your hd in and try read them normally. don't do any data recovery first! Usually those sofeware is the real data killer.
      • that's right, data recovery is the last and worst thing to do. it won't help a lot. trust me.
      • that's a major issue, if I have a working os, then things would be much easier...where can I get a machine for data recovery purposes?
    • if there's no important stuff in your MMX and it has the same OS as in 17G, you can try plug that MMX's HD in.
    • Anyone in the Scarborough area who has a Win98SE CD?
      • Pls email us your telephone number. My LG might could help.
      • I have one. My phone number is 416-9382158. but now I am in office, You only can get it after 6:00 pm.
      • thank you both, I am taking it to the shop, might still need your help when I get back, thank you
        • Since the 40G HD is really important to you, ...
why don't you ask your computer dealer to lend you another 40G HD and then try to use a hard disk copy software such as Norton Ghost to back up the original damaged 40GHD before you do any data recovery on it? Maybe you can do some data recovery job on the newly backed up HD. If you can not get anything out by yourself, you still can send the original HD to a professional data recovery company.
    • put your problem more specificly man, like can you boot ? if not what sort of error msg ? the following could got screwed in most case, 1- mbr, 2- fat, 3- file structure, and there is different way to rectify those.
