Hi, everyone. I've been watching this forum for a while. Here is a question I'd like to ask.
I want to learn ORACLE by myself. I took a course in ORACLE developer/2000. Known about database analysis and design, a little bit PL/SQL. But what I heard is that most of the ORACLE software run on UNIX. Should I learn UNIX as well in order to master ORACLE. I know nothing about UNIX.

Yeah, it's better to know some unix, at least as a user. As unix is quite big, you may consider Linux. The usage and principle is very similar. -sailor(Sailor); 2000-12-24 (#19279@0)

It totally depending on what is your target for the future. DBA and network maintainer is totally different here. actually, the oracle is quite hot same as java right now.

I do know it is a long way to go to become DBA. That is also the reason I asked this kind of question. It's not enough really if you just know one product, whatever it is ORACLE or SQL SERVER. I just wonder how deep I should know UNIX or LINUX. Because I don't have any experience working under UNIX environment. Should I take some courses or just read some books? Or like most guy, I try to install LINUX at home and play with it, get some idea.
