  • 工作学习 / English / Jabber's English Note---049
Some time ago, I mentioned "ground meat" in one of my notes. Indeed, I met two persons who misunderstood the meaning of the word "ground". Actually, if you are a careful person, you may have also see some phrases such as "home-ground coffee" and "100% stone ground whole wheat bread". If you don't believe me, go to the grocery and have a look at those bread loafs.

A good language learner should try to understand the meaning of the words within some contexts. On the contrary, TOFEL and GRE takers just need to learn the words by heart.
    • I guess ground is the passive voice of grind here. BTW, in general, people who have taken TOFEL and GRE test do have better English than those who haven’t. At least they have put more efforts into it.
      • Totally agree with you. However, I get this only after I checked my CIBA2000.
