    A long-standing Canadian best-seller, Dodge's Caravan tops our monthly rankings, still way ahead of its minivan competition in our New Car Buying Service.



    The Chevrolet Cavalier climbs to second place for the month of August and holds on in fourth position in our year-to-date rankings.



    The Ford Escape is the top SUV contender in Carpoint Canada cyber shoppers' eyes and remains their top choice overall in 2001.



    The all-new Jeep Liberty's popularity has soared in our Buying Service since it was launched last Spring. Canadians seem to love this versatile yet more rugged compact SUV.



    The Volkswagen Jetta compact sedan's undisputable charm is obviously still a strong selling point in its favour.

    Here is our monthly report on the ten most popular vehicles on Carpoint Canada's New Car Buying Service, according to the latest data analysis.
    For the eight month this year, our rankings demonstrate unequivocally the lasting appeal of the modern minivan, that most practical of vehicles, in the eyes of Canadian cyber-buyers, while their American neighbours have shunned them for SUVs in droves.

    Our Top 10 rankings also show that Canadians are quite fond of small, affordable and fuel-efficient vehicles.

    In spite of the fact that the numbers we publish are strictly a reflection (accurate) of the purchase intent of users on Carpoint Canada's New Car Buying Service, five of the ten vehicles listed are also among the top 10 names in actual Canadian sales. And the market leader is the same in both instances.

    Space merchant back on top
    After topping our charts in June and July, Chrysler's best-selling Dodge Caravan minivan remained first in August and did not have to share the limelight with the Ford Escape as was the case last month.

    Ford's popular compact SUV has even slipped to 3rd for the month, behind the evergreen Chevrolet Cavalier, but the Escape remains, to this point, the most popular vehicle line of all in Carpoint Canada's New Car Buying Service for all of 2001to date.

    The new Jeep Liberty has remained strong, holding down 4th spot while the Volkswagen Jetta sedan jumps back up from 8th in July to 5th this past month. The stylish German-born remains 3rd in the annual rankings to this date.

    The Ford Windstar has also made a successful return to the Top 10, taking 6th for August and clinging to the 9th place for 2001 as a whole. Inversely, the Ford Focus came through August in 7th and keeps its 6th place in the annual score.

    Back among the Top 10 is the Ford Mustang, in 10th, one position behind the Oldsmobile Alero coupes and sedans. This line is 9th for August and holding on to 13th place for the year.

          I always wonder why there are so many 1.6L Acura in Toronto. What a
          waste to the name of Acura, which is widely believed to be of a higher
          rank than Honda, just as Lexus to Toyota.

          Funny enough, most people prefer to buy a used car from a western
          owner. (It is the same with a house.)
