    本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛He told me, 90% of Chinese guys in his company were laid off. They were given 4-week's salary. But my friend seems to be confident in getting a new job.

    At present, Washinington D.C area is full of unemployed IT people. Only those who are strong can get re-employed soon. One of my former co-workers lost his job on Dec 30, 2000, but he got 3 offers last week.

    Maybe some friends will think I am showing off and wish I lose my job.
    Frankly speaking, I think I will experience lay-off, sooner or later. If you want to survive in the western society, you should have enough courage
    to face lay-off. Take my friend as an example, he strongly belives he will ge employeed soon and he will get some advantages from being laid-off.
    (He is going to get 4-week pay without working. If he gets now job next week, he takes advantages.) Of course, one needs to be prepared. My friend has been playing Weblogic. Actually, he has already known he will be laid off in November, so he has already got ready when his boss annouced laid-off. He was the only person who kept a smile as leaving the company.

    Expect the best, but prepare for the worst. We Chinese guys should not be afraid of lay-off because we have some savings, more or less. For Americans and Canadians, it is really a catastrophe to be laid off. If they cannot find a job within one or two months, it means they need to sell their cars and house because of their huge mortgage payments.

    Of course, being laid-off is not a good thing. Recently, some people claimed that Nortel's lay-off will help get rid of those resume fakers. Such
    a behaviour is not acceptable in the western society.

        My friend's company laid off 90% 0f Chinese guys and those white managers who make a high pay. No black people were laid off because of the reason we can understand. But my friend think some black people will lose their jobs in the second round of lay-off.

        Most of my friend's Chinese colleages are in a very, very sad situation because they are on H1B visas. Two of them are waiting to adjust their immigation status--- getting a green card. But now they need to do everything from the very beginning. If they cannot find jobs within 1 month, it will be very difficult for them to stay in USA LEGALLY.

        However, our project can last until April 1 ONLY. If I were thrown into the job market now, I can still get a job. If the job market continues to schrinking, however, it will be another story.
