      If you claim you are a COM guy, you should be doing COM using VC.
      I have a friend who can do some COM things in VB. In a job interview,
      an interviewer told him: " Only doing COM using VC++ is a COM business in a true sense."

      I began my programming learning with VB. I think it is a good tool for buidling desktop applications.
