  • 枫下拾英 / 心情随笔 / Hey, map, how are you? Happy new year, and all the best! I just moved to another city, which is a nice and peaceful town. Welcome to visit me. lumlum ^_^
By the way, it's the capital city. Fortunately it's not so cold....

    Where are you now?
    • why you just talk to map? We've been waiting for your story for long long time...! How about Ottawa? You got a good job there?
      • Wow, so sorry about that, happy new year to all the friends in rolia. xixi, as I am not as active as before, so I didn't expect sb would remember me here... well, about ottawa,
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛it's another story to tell. But this time it's the love story,,,, ( blushing..... )

Finally I made up my mind to pursue my MBA dream. Actually still wondering whether I should switch to MIS or not. You know, MIS combines management skills with IT knowledge, which would be helpful in job hunting. And it also asks for GMAT score.

Okay, let me simplified my working experience in Toronto first. Actually it really depends on luck. After I took those exams in computer software, like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, I was so upset that, 'cause I didn't get a good mark, and I thouhgt I failed. By the way, they also tested on vocalburary, math, ( so simple that as long as u graduated from middle school, u could do it, without opening your eyes ) , typing speed, article corrections, mainly on grammar, which required some writing skills, ( pls put some efforts on business writing), finally personal interview. I felt fine for face to face interview, 'cause I was quite confident on that. But, all in all, I felt bad. As I didn't prepare for those software well before the exam, I didn't get a high mark. Dear friends, the higher score you got in the exam, the sooner you could get a working opportunity, and the higher pay you would get, keep it in mind.

To my surprise, one week later, the agency called me, just after I had an interview with an advertising company, which offered me a job. It's a kind of sales work, which required a lot of outdoor activities, and was filled with lots of pressure. The basic salary was very low, mainly depending on the sales volume you got. When Andrea asked me whether I was available next day, for a temporary job in a mutual fund company, and it's about one month work, I felt my voice trembling. Without a second hesitation, I said yes, and didn't ask for salary. She asked me to write down the address and appear there on time. She also told me it's a good company and I may get a chance to work permanently there,, sth like that. I didn't care how long I could there, I didn't care how much the wage was, the only thing made me happy was, I would get CANADIAN WORKING EXPERIENCE, which was so important on finding a job. I cancelled my plan to work in that advertising company, and went to the company half an hour earlier than the appointment tme.

Then I worked there almost one year, until I quited the job last week.

Well, just wanted to help friends with similiar background as me, following is the infor of my agency, wish all of you good luck:

        Name: Quantum
        Tel: 416-366-3660
Address: 9th flr, 55 University Ave, Toronto
( It's very close to the intersection of King Str and University Ave. You could get off at the subway stop, St Andrew )

As Andrea who was my consultant resigned, you could ask for anyone.

It could find a lot of financial jobs for you.

Well, stop here for today. Talk to you guys later.

It's a sunny day here in Ottawa, and I am facing the beautiful Ottawa River. I could see the tiny houses on the other side of the river, maybe they are french guys' houses, I think. 'cause it's Quebec area.

        Take care, Lumlum ^_^更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • I'm here! logged in to the net 3 mins ago and got to be shocked, again, by ur big changes! Oh my lady, who is the lucky guy to catch u and persuade u to move to Ottawa??
who is the lucky guy to catch u and persuade u to move to
Ottawa?? No intent to offend but a little bit curiousity.

As for me, stay in GZ for this spring festival, enjoying the Fa Kai,
crowds, dirty streets, delicious food, so and so on. And, yes,
the fireworks of the new year at the White Swan Riverjoint
though it was raining heavily... it is just as simple as u can imagine, a typical Cantonese new year. Fortunately, i don't have close relatives here so it's quiet and leaves me space and time to think abouut the past, the present and the future.

Well, come to tell me what's happening in ur life -- after Boxing Day before today.
      • Is it the same map as kong hi? Wondering.... Why r u a guest? Just curious....Anyway,.... sth about me
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Just quited the job, and would study full time, for GMAT. Have to get a good mark to get into the good business school, or I will choose MIS... Now I am in ottawa, but later will move again, to the states... U should be shocked again, right? Well, will float around for quite a long period. I don't know where finally I will settle down, or which school finally I will enrol, and I just follow my feeling, folllow.... u got it?

Pls don't laugh at me.... xixi,,,,,

        Wish me good luck.

Your words about GZ reminded me so many good memories there. Yes, GZ, an old story, sth in the last century. Well, when everything is over, painful experience will be sweet memory. I believe that. Now I could face all the good and bad memories bravely and won't be afraid of anything....

By the way, I hate Fa kai, which is so crowded. I would rather gather with friends, to play Karaokay, or play Tuo La Ji... Though I couldn't remember cards, though my skills are so bad,,, I just enjoy it....

Now my life is so quite, comparing with those noisy days. But I enjoy it too. Everyone will enjoy different feeling and different taste for life in different stage, especially for those people with both sides of character in peace and out-going, like me.

Tell you one true thing just happened on Dec 23, 2000, which was a Thurseday. I would remember forever. Why I could remember so clearly just because it's our company's Christmas Party on that day. Everyone seemed so happy to expect the party in the morning. Suddenly the manager asked us to have an urgent meeting. We could find all the managers were so sad before starting the meeting. Later he told us, a young, on her age of 25, who just sat besides me, who came in the day before, who was very outgoing and enjoyed life, who was sick for some days, passed away on Wednesday night...... All of us were so upset and shocked, especially me. I could remember the topics we discussed, about her vocation to the southern america, about work and life, but now, and forever she won't come and talk to me anymore.... She felt so uncomfortable to come to work, but as she had asked for one week off alreday, and she told me she couldn't afford to ask for another week off, so she came in. All of us persuaded her to go back home to rest more, but she didn't leave until 5pm. Then in the evening she couldn't breath, and passed away.... Ai, life is so weak.. It's a real story... Just not long time ago, around me.

All of us should cherish life, cherish what we have now, no matter it's a hard life, cherish the ones we love, 'cause we really don't know what will happen tomorrow.

Don't regreat what happened yesterday, cherish today, and look at tomorrow...

Wish you have a wonderful life.

        • it's really a sad story. is it the reason that u quit the job, i mean, the girl? sometimes
i have the same feeling - life is too fragile. any trip may keep
me stay with God in heaven. disease may stop a life without mercy.
There is another sad story. a female Director in my company is affected by cancer. She is an outstanding
biz woman, beautiful, smart, but now she can do nothing but lay in bed waiting for God to pick her up.

One of my colleague is leaving the company urgently. so i have to take over his team until i recruit a replacement for me.
Before that i can't leave for Ca. it's really a dirty job to look after around 30+ IT people, but someone has
          to do it.

          Talk to u later,
Map (my ID is locked, don't know why.)
          • Well, that's not the reason why I quit the job. Not for the poor girl actually... But for another person....
Seems that you are pretty busy these days. Good for you. And seems that you could handle it well. So, u r working in IT field, aren't you? Anything relative with telecom? If so, you should come to Ottawa.. 'cause there are a lot of working opportunities here, for those telecom guys. And the pay is good.

It's another weekend. U are still on spring festival vocation, but here, I can't find any feeling for it. I have to keep telling sb that, " hi, today is da nian chu san...." sth like this.

China seems so far from me now. Fortunately I can speak with sb in Chinese everyday. I like Chinese culture.

Sorry, so much for now, talk to you later....

            Lumlum ^_^

              • Oh, map is a Christian....
Well, I am much better than before, not so heavy home sick. AS time being, everyone could adjust himself to adapt the new environment. Or he could just choose either staying here or going back. It's not a big deal.

Thanks for your little funny story. Well, hopefully I plan to go back home this year.

                lumlum^_^
