    I am from UWO. I noticed in some posts, UWO was ranked to the end. Following
    is some facts of UWO for your reference.

    1. Each year, IBM hires some 50% of UWO's Computer graduates.

    2. UWO is the first university in Canada that teaches JAVA in
    the first and second year. CS026 in JAVA was introduced in 1997.
    Using JDBC in DB2 was introduced in the summer of 1998

    3. UWO is also the first in Canada that introduced Data Mining.

    4. UWO's CS201 used to be one of the most difficult computer
    courses in Canada's Computer Teaching society. CS201 is now
    cancelled because it is too hard. Now it is substituted by
    3 seperate courses, CS210, CS211 and CS212.

          As for CS, I believe it is good ,too ,'cause I can see from its website that it is trying to become one of the best in CA by all means .

          I am applying 2nd bachelor degree program in CS and just got an offer from Queen's. Toronto Univ. and Waterloo haven't informed me.

          • I don't know queen's CS. But Queen's MBA is one of the best. The cretia in choosing a school to pursue CS degree should be based on the field you are going to. -wjiang(wjiang); 2001-1-27 {333} (#23103@0)
            each school has its strength and weakness. For example, UWO's networking is
            weak. Do some research upon those who admit you. Don't just listen to others.
            Some comments about pork are made by persons who have never seen a pig in their
            life. For the right comments to Queens, I suggest you talk to people from Queens.

              I graduated from the China Pharmaceutical Univ. 4 years ago and then worked in Suzhou . I landed in Toronto last Aug. and now I work in a pharmaceutical company near Toronto. I love CS but to tell the truth I don't know much of it. That is why I feel difficult to choose a suitable school to study CS. Of course it is easy to make a decision if i am admitted by Waterloo or Toronto,'cause ....... . ^,^haha , I bet you know why . Thanks for you let us know more about CS of UWO,its advantages and weakness. I bet they are really useful to all who are considering to seek a CS degree. Hope to see more posts from U , buddy!!

          • that are courses for students outside the department. Maths and statics students need Fortune. As per O2, I have no idea. No people I know in computer science ever take that. Personally, I don't know what is O2 except for it is a -wjiang(wjiang); 2001-1-27 {17} (#23090@0)

                Normally X1X, X2X are not core course. Courses such as Fortun, Unix, Database
                are NOT core courses. A noncore course is the course that you can't use it
                to build up your credits. For example, a course named "English 101" is opened
                by English department. But English 101 is not for students from English
                department. Think about English 4 level certification in china, it is not for
                English student. Back to computer science, the course "Unix" is not for
                CS students either. CS students should take "Operation System". O2 is like Unix. It
                is an application rather than operation system theory. CS students can't gain credits
                by taking application courses. That's why no school teaches MCSE. And fortune is
                named "scientific computing" if I remember correctly. It is for Math students.

                If you read the course description correctly, you will understand the difference.
                Or think in China's system, core courses are Bi4 Xiu1 Ke4 and others are Xuan3
                Xiu1 Ke4.

        UWO, like any other school, has its own defect. It is pretty weak in Computer
        Netwroking courses. If you are pursuing this direction, either go to UWO's EE
        or go to another school. Other than that, I don't see why UWO is worse.

        Of course, UWO's computer science doesn't have much beautiful girls. If you
        are a breautiful girl, go there to enhance it. If you are a man, think it
        over, you have very little chance to find a lady. I had to go back to china
        to import my wife in the end. :-)
