谈不上流利,只是说“i beg your pardon", "I'm sorry", "could you say it again"时再也不会脸红心跳了
                • I used to think that it would take 3-5 years. However, I've realized that language learning is a life time thing, especially when I speak with native English speakers.
          • hey! Long time no see, how's everything going? :-)
            • Speaking English is challenging for non-English speaker. You know, someone like challenge. However, one can do whatever he/she can, while enjoying life, xixixi...
    • If rent a room in a local family or share a room with the local guys, does it help? Who has such kind of experience?
      • I believe that teaching English in LINC is a little bit different than teaching English in college or university ( probably lower lever).
    • nice to meet you again. Let me tell you my opinion,
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I am so confident to speak english almost as a native english speaker within no more than 2 years, even though my english is far from what is called good or fluent. if one be so eager to do sth well, and do properly. he would be sure to get such kind of goal as to speak english fluently.

I have the samilar experience in learning Japanese, just took less than 1 year, I have reached the highest level recoganized by official, and in those days that I had to speak in japanese 24 hours a day 7 days a week, by talking with me in a short time, even a japanese could not acknowledge that I am not a native japanese speaker. (a little pity, I forgot much of it due to without speaking for a long period of time). comparing with my foundation of english, basis of japanese could just be called nothing.

here, no one requires you to speak in english all the time, farther, it is not necessary and you also have no person to talk. they are the reasons why we cannot boost our english quickly. in another word, we have to creat a good environment in which we are forced to speak in english, consciously or unconsciously. I know that, for most people, the doing is not easy as the talking. so, the result that you can imagine, is that little people can reach their goal in a short time such as 1 or 2 years.

what you are asking is not so difficult that you should give up your struggle, just keeping to do it, you will and must win the war, not against terrorist but againt poor english.

      good luck.

        • sorry, wrong ID, it's me! :-)
    • got a friend, been here for nearly 30 years, married a canadian for more than 20 years, still her english is just so so. another girl, been here for a short while, her english is no diffrente from canadians.
        • How long can we understand what they are saying?
            • How long have you been here? I couldn't understand Cantonese well after 10 years' living in Guangzhou.
