    Non-exempt jobs and non-exempt employees

Right now, if we really wish to find some interesting topics, jobs are the best choice. Sometimes, people may see some job advertisements containing the word "non-exempt". If you try to understand the meaning of this phrase by looking up the dictionary, probably you will get still confused. I got acquaintance with this term right after I came to North America. I even asked an American lady to explain the meaning of this phrase to me. Unfortunately, I did not understand too much her explanation. After several years, I have finally understood it by reading some employee handbooks. Now I understand that "non-emempt" employees are elligible to receive overtime pay. For their approved hours worked over forty hours in one week, the non-exempt employees can receive one and one-half times their regular hourly wage. In other words, non-exempt jobs are not permanent jobs and paid hourly.
    • Do you mean the over hours will not be paid if one is on a permanent positon?
