    Dear Friends,

    We have benifited a lot from our discussion in this forum. Sailor is the owner and he contributed a lot of time to maintain it. So far, he pays about $1500 CAD for hosting this site each year.

    I suggest we share his expenses. I understand that a lot of friends are still striving for a job in Canada and those who have a job are still not rich. So I suggest those who can afford donate $10 for the web hosting of this site. The first thing to do is to find a person in Toronto to collect the money. ( I am sorry I cannot take this job because I am still in USA).
    We can publish a contributor list after this activity is over.

      Actually I can afford the running cost, as long as I'm working as a programmer in Canada. :-)

      From the management aspect, I prefer keeping the current financial situation of rolia.com. I believe rolia.com can serve people better while it's still a private site. (an example that private companies in western countries are more active and have better performance.)

      The best way to help rolia.com includes:

      * Providing your comments on any aspect of the site;
      * Help people who need ;
      * Share your Canadian experience with us, whether successful or not ;
      ...

        It may occured to me that we may share running expenses of the site
        after I had read posting #27513 and all of its followings. I began to moderate at rolia.com before I landed in Toronto. As I was in Toronto, I had a pleasure to meet Sailor and he gave me a treat. We discussed many things related to this site. I suggest him to publish some ads but
        he declined my suggestion. Sailor hopes that this site has no commercial stuff. I asked how much expenses were and he told me
        it is roughly $1500 annually. Of course, this is not a very big number.
        If I have not seen posting #27513, I would have never thought of the hosting expenses of rolia.com. I personally think I should share some expenses because I benefitted a lot here.

        2) We had better have a simple life. (In response to bug)

        I think our web hosting is a very special business. We had better not mix it with some other things, such as gathering-up and helping those unfortunate people. We have a very limited resource and we cannot do those things beyond our ability.

        3) We need a volunteer in Toronto who can take care of this matter.

        听说因为某个人网站因pager view达到一定数量面卖了xx money时，我希望 rolia.com 不会，如果她有困难，大家都会来的，这不仅仅是物质上的。"集资"一事其实是个人行为，大家喜欢就行了，不用一窝蜂，一定弄清楚谁给了，谁没给，你给了多少，我给了多少，成了攀比和生事和被嚼舌头的地方。也不要因为一些新人因经济能力或其他情况，而感到内疚，不安。
        所以，我建议有几个热忱者组织起来，建一个帐户，钱数自由，捐赠人保密。每人的捐赠额不准超过xxx金额，以免Sailor不安。
        帐户号码挂在网页的某个位置，说明规则。不用大肆旗鼓，不做硬性指标，摊派。
        切实做到平等，互利，自由，而不产生任何副作用。
        希望大家最终不管是怎么做都是："我高兴"，"我愿意"。

        Those free ISPs can only publish static stuff--- Amateur's Homepage.
        Rolia.Com is database-driven. Can you believe free ISPs would like to
        support our database?
        • The site of doforyou.net is not a free staff. We own the site and I'd like to share the space for rolia and Folks. Just let me know what kind of database rolia use in backend server.
