  • 工作学习 / 求学深造 / 拿到底特律一所大学的Offer,要搬到温莎去了。谁有在多伦多申请f1的经验?另外,温莎的房子好找吗?谢谢了!
    • wayne state?
      • yes, any comments?
        • 如果住温莎,要考虑.1 过一次隧道或桥要交3.5元过桥费. 2. 还要确定你拿的F1是多次往返的.
          • I hear a multi-entry visa is not necessary for crossing US-Canadian border, as long as you have a valid I94. But I never tried myself. Does anyong have this kind of experience?
            • what is "a valid I94"?
              • INS Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record)
                • How can I get it ? need to apply?
                  • They should give you when you enter US. Do take good care of it (it's a little piece of paper), as it's a important document showing your legal status in US.
            • true.
              • Are you sure? Since I94 should be returned each time you leave US, unless you have a multiple entry stamp on it. Well, I don't know this, frankly.
                • At US-Canada border, no one takes back I94.
                  • I am not sure if the 5 or 10-yr multi-entry visa is still available for Canadia PR. If it is, I don't think you need to worry about the I-94 thing. Better go check INS website for more and accurate details.
                    • valid within six month
                    • That's visitor's visa, not good for attending school. F1visa usually is valid for several months, but F1 holder's I94 does not have an expire date. So that's the trick.
                      • Yes she needs F1 visa for attending school.
                      • I am now too lazy to browse INS website or check with others again :-)
                • I deleted my reply because I realized that mm1 didn't tell us enough information about her current status. Wish the following and the INS URL helps.

What is an Arrival-Departure Record? Once you receive an immigrant or nonimmigrant visa, you are authorized to travel to the United States. However, a visa does not guarantee that you will be allowed to enter the United States. The INS has authority to grant or deny your admission to the United States. The INS also will determine how long you may stay in the United States.

An Arrival/Departure Record is created by the INS when the traveler is inspected upon arrival in the United States. The inspector endorses the INS Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record) with the date, place of arrival the "class of admission" (which corresponds to the visa class), the length of time the traveler may remain in the United States, and any special conditions which may apply to the visit. The inspector keeps the Arrival portion of the form and returns the endorsed departure portion to the traveler who must keep the card in his possession until he leaves the United States. When the traveler leaves the United States, he must surrender the departure portion of the I-94 to the airline representative, if he travels by air, or to the immigration or customs officer if he departs across the border to Canada or Mexico. For more, please see How Do I Get an Arrival-Departure Record? and How Do I Get Legally Admitted to the United States?.

If you want to stay longer than the date authorized by your INS Form I-94, you must apply for an extension with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The decision to grant or deny a request for extension of stay is made solely by the INS. For more information, please see How Do I Get Permission to Extend My Stay in the United States?.

Who Needs an Arrival Departure Document? Most foreign travelers will receive an Arrival Departure Record when arriving at a U.S. port-of-entry.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

Most visitors to Canada will need an appointment to apply for a visa at the U.S. Consular sections in Canada. The only exceptions are as follows:

                      -Landed immigrants to Canada.
-Persons who have authorization to study or work in Canada or are the dependent spouse or child of someone who has authorization to study or work in Canada.

There are no other exceptions. An appointment does not guarantee issuance of a visa.
*Note: Appointments are required for ALL visa applicants residing in the Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal consular districts.

In general, visitors who wish to travel to the U.S. should apply at the U.S. Embassy in their home country before departure where they are better able to demonstrate their ties to a foreign residence as required under U.S. immigration law.

If you are visiting, living, working or studying in the U.S. and plan to apply for a new non-immigrant visa in one of the Canadian Consulates (Halifax, Montréal, Québec City, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver) you must have an appointment in advance.

If you are currently residing in the United States out-of-status, you may not apply for a visa at a Canadian or Mexican border post. You must apply for the visa in your country of nationality. If you have any questions about your status, you must consult the local Immigration and Naturalization Service office for clarification.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
        • if u have car, to live in windsor is the right choice
considering the exchange rate, u spend ~100us$/mo crossing border, assuming u go there 5days a week, wayne state is ok, EXCEPT its location---Detroit downtown, for that regards, selecting windsor is a much better choice. if u live in surburb of usa side, it is even farther than commuting between 2countries.

              • I don't know the situation now. it took 2 weeks from the day I made the appointment to the day of interview. but that's in February.
                • Could you share your experience with me?
                  • I did not apply for F1, though.
    • Can you tell me if you get F1, thanks.
