    电脑配置:PIII 500, 128M, 10G, 英文win2000 server ,Visualage Entry Enterprise Edition for Windows, Version 3.5 。
    • where is your dwelling? perhaps I can be a help.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I myself don't have any problem in installing ivj at my Windows NT workstation. I understand the installation of ivj is quite straightforward.
Few people got into the trouble that you are experiencing.

Here is a story for you. If you tried to install Oracle at Windows but failed at the first try, you would never succeed unless you format your machine. Why? The first installation left some misleading records in the windows registry and your following installation would follow the wrong track again. Of course, some experts can clean up the windows registry but I have not yet met such an expert in my programmer carrer.
I am not sure whether your problem is as persistent as that of the Oracle installation.

Since you are using downloaded version, I don't think you are using it at a company. There are some many free IDEs.... I suggest you forget about that vaj and download a forte for java from Sun's site or Jbuilder from Borland. If you want to learn J2ee, you may download a J2EE IDE
package from Sun---- this package works with Forte for Java and offers you opportunities to play J2EE. Actually, all the IDEs are similar.

I think you need to get help from people around you. If you live in Toronto,
you had better contact Eglinton. I don't think you can get pertinent help
by posting your questions repeatedly. If your problem is easy to pin down, many people would have contributed.

      Good luck.
      • Oracle installation
        Hi jabber,

Actually if you failed t the first try when you install oracle on NT or windows, it isn't necessary to format your disk. Try to remove all the stuff using oracle installer, delete related directory and the items at start menu, then run 'regedit'. Search relevent parameters using keywork 'ora' and delete them, you can try your second installation. Trust me, I did that several times.

jabber, I am your friend's friend. Hope we can be friends.
        • Thanks. Of course, one should be able to resolve the problem by going through the procedures you mentioned.
However, one must clean up the registry, which is not easy. All the things are easy for the people who know them well. Last time, our Oracle certified DBA failed in fixing the problem but we urgently needed to set up the DB for the prototyping. Finally, we formatted harddisk!

I myself have an Oracle running at home. I did not personallly fall into the problem. Thank you again, my friends's friend. By the way, I don't encourage people to touch windows registry.
    • Hello! eglington, I lived sheppard and birchmount in toronto. Please help me. My phone number is 416-7602522. please give me youe phone number. Thanks a lot.
      • ok, wait until this evening
          • Eglington, you are doing a deed! Otherwise, we will see a Java programmer wondering around in Toronto downtown wiith shraggered clothes...
By the way, don't forget tell us what the ailment is and what medicine you have applied
    • me too. I can`t install VAJ3.5 for Win. The same as you. I have success in the installation of others (Borland JBuilder 4/Sun Forte for Java/Oracle JDeveloper3.2). But failed in VAJ3.5 yesterday.
      • WHY? it's pretty straightforward! click setup.exe, next -> next -> next .... then OK!
        • If problems occur, one had better check the installation instruction at IBM's site.
People fails for many diffirent reasons. For instance, 1) without adminsitrator's privilege; 2) TCP/IP not configured properly.

Checking the documentation is more efficient than asking help from this forum: For expereinced people, things are exactly as simple as Eglington
described: "click setup.exe, next-> ...->finish". If other people do not make the same mistakes, they seldom can offer any useful advice.
          • Thanks. I have download the Installation Document. I think it`s......
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My PC is PIII 500/128M/12G and have run Oracle8i/WebLogic6.0/SQLServer7.0(Windows2000)
            The Document mention follow:

            B.1.1 General prerequisites
This edition of VisualAge for Java, Version 3.5, has the following hardware and software prerequisites:
Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows NT(R) 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or higher. l
            TCP/IP installed and configured l
Pentium II (R) processor or higher recommended. If you plan to work in the WebSphere Test Environment we
recommend a minimum processor speed of 400 MHz.
            l
SVGA (800x600) display or higher (1024x768 recommended) l
96 MB RAM minimum (160 MB recommended) l
128 MB RAM minimum is required if you wish to work in the VisualAge for Java WebSphere Test
Environment. We strongly recommend 256 MB to avoid disk thrashing.
            l
To use the Distributed Debugger, you will need 128 MB RAM minimum (196 MB recommended) l
Disk space requirements: (based on NTFS) 400 MB minimum (750 MB or more recommended.) Disk space on
FAT depends on hard disk size and partitioning. If you are installing to a very large FAT drive, then the space
required for VisualAge for Java is almost doubled (due to 32KB cluster overhead). If you are installing the
e-connectors (automatically installed with the Transactions Access Builder) you may need an extra 150-200 MB
            disk space free.
            l
Frames-capable Web browser such as Netscape Navigator 4.7 or higher, or Microsoft (R) Internet Explorer 5.0
or higher. Important: You must have the Windows Scripting Host on your system in order to install VisualAge
for Java. The Host is included in Microsoft Internet Explorer (Version 3.0 or higher). You should not use
anything lower than Netscape Navigator 4.7 or Internet Explorer 5.0 to view any online documentation, but you
must have Internet Explorer (Version 3.0 or higher) installed to install VisualAge for Java.
            l
If you want to run the Websphere Application Server with DB2 and VisualAge for Java concurrently, then a
            minimum of 512 MB is recommended.
