Try to find and open the 'normal.dot' to see if it is the 'doc1', if it is, delete it and word should generate a new blank one for you.

I am not sure. It looks like you overwrite the initial 'normal.dot' template with your 'doc1'. (1) find the 'normal.dot'

: start->Find->'nomal.dot' (2) delete it OR ask your friend to send you a correct copy of 'normal.dot' to replace the corruputed one.
