  • 工作学习 / 事业与工作 / which is better, to study in university or try to find a job
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛the first I want to introduce myself.

My major is Artistic design. I worked as an artistic director in a TV station for 7 years in China. I am good at Photoshop, illustrator, pagemaker, quarkxpress etc. Also I can use 3DS.

After I immigrated to Canada I found it's hard to continue my carrer here because of the language problem. What i can do here is graphic design. But, I am not very interested in that. I want to do something new. So I started to learn Web page design.

Now I am good at flash, dreamveaver. I also know html. What I want to do is trying to find a job as a Web page designer.

The problem is my friend strongly recommends me to study in university.
He gave me a lot of reasons.

The primary reason is many people's experience has already proved without Canadian education background, you can not find a professional job. Also it is a good way to study English and get to know the society in the university. On the other hand, one day, if you want to return to China, at least you have a north American degree.

The second reason is you can get student loan if you are full-time student so that you don't need to worry about money.

Please help me to make decision! If you have any suggestion, please let me know. I really need your help. Thank for you very much!!!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
    • 别的不知道,只知道上大学会提高英文一说纯属虚构。你没见北美大学里一万个中国学子上课提问老师没几个能听懂?
      • but think about that to speak, listen and write in English everyday. it's suposed can improve English.
      • hoho, in fact some OLD CHINESE PEOPLE don't ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS. It's true that making more friends is easier in campus and can improve English, so the people you talked about are---VERY SILLY AND OLD-FASHIONED.
    • 而且,绝大多数(>80%)四年下来没提过一次问,你信么?
      • how about without a Canadian education background I can not find a job in my field, I mean my new career, Web design.
    • I guess there is no answer to your question. 100 person can give you 200 different opinions. The final decision has really to be up to you. Here is some of my thoughts....
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1. Don't bet on degree too much. People hire you to solve the problems, not introduce degree to their company. Having a degree doesn't necessarily mean knowing how to solve the problems.

      2. Ask yourself what is really your interest. I have a female friend who got an IT job 2 months ago. She was from Civil Engineering background. Although she is making 50K now but I can tell she is leading a miserable life. Over time everyday even on weekend doing something she is not good at.

      3. Without Canadian experience is really a just excuse to those who can not find a job yet. Try to prove you know how to solve the problem. Don't defeat yourself by "without Canadian experience". Establish your confidence is much more important that the degree or certification.

      4. Degree is some kind of important if you set your career goal high. It is because it gives you the proper way of thinking in this field. The degree itself is really nothing.

      5. Based on your background, trying to expose your artwork to those companies by all mean. You should get answer pretty soon.

      6. Establish your confidence, improve your English skill and learn how to sell yourself in the mean time, does matter you are going to school or keep looking for a job.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
