my experience: the more, the better. carrying 7 boxes is not harder than carrying 5 boxes.

i would suggest you buy 158cm suitcases. every vendor knows what that means. my sister just flied back to CA. her suitcase is 31" and was checked by airline very carefully. she is lucky because the suitcase was brought back from CA without penalized.

no problem. airport is not so strict to new immgritant for the first time to canada. only not too large or too weight. i come ca last month from beijing .that is too easy. many problems as you thought are not real problems.
