    • help
      • How's your car?
90% the trasmission is leaking and some parts are damaged.Stop driving your car any more.Have your car towed, and check the trasmission oil.
How to check the automatic fluid
First, check the oil on the dip stick.
It should be clean and transparent, without any metal filings. Try to smell this oil. It should not have a burnt smell. ! If you discover that this oil is too dirty, or smells like something burned, the transmission may break down soon.
First of all,can you tell me your car's year and model and milage?
          • 1994 SUZUKI swift 106000km now, Thank you very much!
            • (悄悄的说)Sorry,I couldn't write those in Chinese.Because most of them are copy from a text book of mine.It is too hard for me to translate them all into Chinese.I think you can check your owner's manual.Or
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Check Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Fluid Level and Condition
Automatic transmission or automatic transaxle fluid should be checked at regular mileage and time intervals as specified in the owner's manual. Anytime you are doing lubrication work on a car you should check the fluid level.

Make sure the engine and transmission are up to operating temperature. Locate the fluid level checking procedure in the owner's or shop service manual. Drive the car onto a level surface. Most cars must have the engine running to make a fluid level check. Some cars must have the transmission in NEUTRAL and others require that it be in PARK for testing. Set the selector in the correct mode. If the transmission is checked in NEUTRAL, block the wheels and set the parking brake.

WARNING: Failure to have the transmission in the correct gear when checking fluid level can cause a large error in the reading.

Raise the hood and locate the automatic transmission/transaxle dipstick. Typically you will find the dipstick near the transmission end of the engine at the opposite end of the drive belts.

WARNING: Never wipe a dipstick with a rag with lint. Lint from a rag could get into transmission control valves and cause them to stick. It could also plug up fluid passages. Use only lint-free rags or shop towels.

Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free rag. Observe the markings on the dipstick. There is no standard marking system, so you may need to look up an explanation of the marks in the owner's manual. A typical marking system is shown below. This dipstick has a full hot level mark and an add 1 pt (pint) or 0.5 L. (liter) mark. The word hot means the fluid must be hot when checked. There can be a large difference in fluid level between hot and cold fluid levels. Some dipsticks have a cold reading on the dipstick, which should be used if the transmission is cold.

Insert the dipstick back into its housing and push it down until it seats. Pull it back out and observe the fluid level in relation to the dipstick markings. If fluid must be added, refer to the section on adding fluid.

While you have the fluid on the dipstick you should observe its color and condition. This information can help you decide if the fluid requires changing. Clean, uncontaminated fluid has a pinkish or reddish color. Fluid that has been overheated turns a darkish brown or black. A white milky appearance can mean that the engine coolant is leaking into the transmission.

Another fluid check to make is to wipe the fluid off the dipstick with a white absorbent paper. Look for foreign particles in the fluid. Silvery particles can mean there is wear on metallic parts. Dark particles can be friction material that has come off transmission parts. Also look for a dark gummy material on the dipstick. This is usually a varnish buildup in the fluid. Fluid that shows any of these problems should be changed, as explained in the following section. Replace the dipstick and make sure it is seated properly.
                • Are you a member of CAA or some kind of Auto Club?If you are,you can have your car towed for free.Check the YellowPage for the trasmission experts.Do ask for a written estimate and don't pay cash, pay CAR! G.L.
                  • Do ask for a written estimate and don't pay cash,pay CAR! G.L.
I must go now.Sorry! G.L.=Good Luck
General Labor :-(
                • Don't "pay CAR",pay CARD.Transmission repair is one of the most expensive repair on cars.It can easy goes to $1000.I hope I was wrong and good luck.
                    • Don't tow the car now.Check the transmission oil first. You can also check if you can find something else wrong.Good luck!
                    • Hardly can you sell it by cheating; you'd think of trading in when buying a new car.
          • As I have posted,"CHECK THE CAR'S CONDITION".Don't just think this model is very good and assume the one you're buying will be the same.
I know that there are lots of scams waiting for our Newcomers.I have seen some myself.

So ,how to save money and buy a reliable used car with a reasonable price? The answer is very simple:always have some one who knows cars to help you for the whole process of buying a used car (new car as well).CHECK THE CAR'S CONDITION! If you need professional or even half-professional advice and if you have to pay for that, just pay! Don't save a little at the begining and end up losing a lot more.Don't rush into buying a car that you don't know (the model's reliability, the parts and service' s availability, and the car's condition).

            Good Luck!
Protect you money and our Newcomer's "face".Don't let the other people think little of we Newcomers!
            Hold together! Fight back!
        • Transmission repair easily goes beyond $1000. I had same miserable experience.
        • I spent $1000 to replace a used transmission and got 6 months guarentee. Right at the moment when it was just past 6 months, the replaced transmission went wrong again.
    • you should check the transmission oil first, try to know where is leaking. If it is the plate which holds the transmission filter is leaking, it should be cheap to change it, around 100 bucks.
I believe all the mechnic will tell you that your transmission is gone, so you need 1000$ to repair it. My advice is: try to call many mechnics, tell them what's going on, and let them give you a estimated price. The best way is to ask one of your friend who is a mechnic to check for you first.
    • Please don't give me any wrong information! I just got my car fixed. Only one seal has been changed, and it cost me 100 bucks. so, what your so-called expert!
