      Sun postpones Solaris Intel Edition to cut costs, however, I think something is wrong between these two competitors. If you want to learn Solaris, you'd better find some Sparc Systems. On PC you can install Linux, they are very similar. I installed Linux on one of my home computers and ssh to my company's VPN or my clients'.

      Just proceed as if you want to download the Sparc version. At the "Receipt" (last) page, on the left hand side there's a link called "Complete Download", there you can find Solaris 8 7/01 Intel.

            • I used to have it on 2 CDRWs but recently I got a Ultra10 so I erased it and burned the sparc version. But I still have pending downloads for Solaris 8 7/01 Intel (lastest is 10/01) so if you want ... -dennis2(Dennis); 2002-1-14 {970} (#334048@0)
              ... I'll download it tonight and put it on my web server. (It'll take a while for me to download the whole thing though.)

              Another Option would be to purchase the media kit (US$45) which includes Oracle for Solaris Intel (no download from Oracle). I ordered one over a year ago (still US$75 at the time, 10/00 version of Solaris 8 with Oracle 8.1.6 for Solaris Intel) so probably there are new versions with the 10/01 media kit. I can' t find the content of the media kit anymore (it was there before) so I can't tell which version of Oracle is included.

              So I have (or will have):

              - Solaris 8 for Intel (7/01)*
              - Oracle 8.1.6 for Solaris Intel

              Tell me what you want and I'll put them up on my web server.

              * You'll need to apply patches to update it to the lastest version. If you're going to use it in production you'll need to apply the patches anyway since the login vulnerability was found November last year, that's after they released 10/01.
