      • Man, how could you take Egg's flatterings serious?
Indeed, my English writing is fraught with defects. I can summarize them as follows: 1) There are a lot of artificial sentences. Syntatically, ther are correct. But native English writers do not organize the sentences in the way I do. 2) There are a lot of minors, such as incorrect usage of verb phrases. The most recent example is I misused the verbal phrase " lay off". As I suggested Ji-Ang lay off his leader, I put it into the form " lay off her". This is a typical grammer mistake. ( I have already corrected it into "lay her off").

Frankly speaking, my writing is good enough because I can get myself across. Most of my postings in this forum are finished within a very short time and I have not spent any time refining them. In no case can I improve my writing to the extent that the articles in the Star are presented to its reader.

By the way, I have ever seen two persons' English postings in this forum, which are more descent than mine.
      • Jabber's English could be perfect if he was a single and could go out with a native speaker for, say, six months. Oh, well, too bad.
You can never get to be perfect in life. Still I bet he can come very close to speaking and writing perfect English, if he keeps doing what he is doing now. You may call that "learning it the hard way". He has this incredibly positive attitude and he has the patience. I find those the two most important things, in English learning or in other aspects of our lives.
        • You hit the point!
Strategically, we have to improve our English so as to survive in this society. Tactically, we have to be as patient as we can.

Unfortunately, most of us are no longer teenagers so we have very few opportunities to mix up with those native English speakers. Even so, we have to try our best.
              • Dear Gentlefish, I think I can be counted as a qualified programmer at most.
Though some people esteem themselves as IT-experts, there are not as many as we think. My conclusion is simple: experts won't come in this forum. If you are interested, you may visit www.is4u.net and you can see a lot of experts fight against each other fiercely.
