    I am not an "IT" man and don't know much about it. My task is Email checking, web surfing, on-line chatting, and downloading mp3 and movie.

    Which one is better for me? ADSL or Cable?

    What is the meaning of "static IP"? Is it important?

    I will buy another computer. How can I connect them together? Does it affect the choice between ADSL and Cable?

      1. Price almost the same without considering promotion, don't count on promotion in the long run.

      2. most cases Cable is faster than DSL, but you should consider other things, i.e. TV channels, availibilty in your place(sometimes you may not have DSL option). From my experience DSL is a little more stable than Cable, after all DSL could be easier to manage in ISP's point of view.

      3. Static IP is useless to you unless you want to be a server on the Internet, nowadays neither of them gives you that.

      4. You need a router to establish an internal network in house. see www.futureshop.ca, 70$ you can get one.

          I can only tell you how the router can help you achieve the goal.

          1. The router supports both Cable and DSL

          2. Normally router setup is simple enough for experienced PC user to get it done within 20 minutes, WEB interface.

          3. You can have modem and router on all the time, right after you turn on PC, you are on the internet, no need to signon Cable or DSL everytime. The other way you have to make sure the server PC is on if you are using the client.

          4. You can connect a printer to the router if your printer has network interface, but more likely you will connect printer and scaner to one PC, then share within your internal network.
