which kind of cable modem? If RCA, you don't need IP assignment, just install modem driver? check ur device manager.

I notice a USB MAC address and an Ethernet address on it. When I use Ethernet interface and Win2k, Internet connection is ok. After I released Ethernet IP, and connected to USB interface with a notebook and win98, it didn't work.
