  • 枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / 听说TN签证可以在Port of Entry申请, 真的吗? 持此种签证的人可以在美国工作多少年? 能申请绿卡吗?
    • Dear Yukon, I really appreciate your nickname:-). Let me try to answer your question
Yes, you can apply a TN visa at a US port of entry. You need show your Canadian passport, US company's offer letter and probably your diploma. The visa is good for one year. In one year, you need go back to Canada and re-enter USA for a new TN visa. If you change your employer, you also need go back to Canada and re-enter USA.

      Good luck.
      • Thank you, Jabber. Someone told me that the TN could not apply for the PR in the states. A canadian still has to apply a H1-B in order to get the PR status. Is that true?
        • True. Even you have become a Canadian citizen, you still need to wait for a long time for a green card. The reason is simple: you were born in mainland China!
      • No! You can go back Canada OR you can go any XXX office to renew your TN visa. BTW, you can NOT apply green card by holding TN, you have to change to H1-B
    • although TN is annually renewable,
as long as the USA company hire you, you can keep this kind
symbolic renewal forever and, very conveniently---say, at windsor/detroit border.

since TN status is for NAFTA professionasl only, L or H visas are normally needed for USA GC,
but but I really see little reason for a USA GC for Canadians
