    help! Which kind person can solve my problem? I just bought a Hub and want to share Internet with other guy. The situation is : he has a computer with WIn2000 and already apply the Shawcable to surf internet. but I can not log on internet when we both connect to hub, his computer works well. Even his computer log off, I still can not log on. why, my operation system is XP. it seems software configuration is ok, can you tell me how to deal with this problem?

    • 很简单，两台电脑如果用hub连接要share internet，必须有一台机器作为server，安装连接共享的软件，另外一台作为client接入。要求作为server的机器要安装两块网卡，一块接cable modem， -pcrabbit(钱不够花); 2002-2-24 {113} (#379121@0)
      另外一块接hub。作为client的机器一块网卡接hub。连接共享的软件可以用win2000或XP自己带的internet连接共享，很简单的。

      I follow the windows Xp suggestion plan to establish network: Cable modem directly connect to Hub, two computers connect to Hub, there is no connection between two computers. My hub has uplink port and five normal ports, now let us focus on the cable between the cable modem and Hub, when I use jumping cable, only computer A can log on Internet , but when I use normal cable to connect the cable modem with Hub, Only computer B can surf on the Internet. Why? besides, each time, one computer log on the internet, another only show IP address and Subnet mask without DNS & default gateway by using Ipconfig to test. please help me.

        • 老兄，你的plan理论上是行不通的，把hub换成router还差不多。你的问题的原因很简单，其实跟cable没有关系，哪台机器先获得分配的ip就工作，剩下的那台就不能上网了。看来网络的东东兄还得多学一点。 -pcrabbit(钱不够花); 2002-2-25 (#379803@0)

                  1.如果ISP只提供一个全局IP的话，两台或以上的电脑要上网就必须要有一个设备作代理，或者是Router，或者是软件来做；
                  2.如果ISP可以提供多个IP(一般要加钱)，用Hub就行了。

                  说说solution 1，有很多办法的，Intel就有这种产品，基本不用配置，连接外网和内部电脑，做为代理服务器使用，几年前刚出来时的价格是RMB4000；软件实现则必须要用一台电脑+代理的软件，这台电脑至少要有两块网卡设备(Modem拨号用户的Modem也当网卡看)，软件实在太多了，随便找一个都行，Win2000以上的系统就自带了，设置大同小异，一般 自己试试都可以解决。
