Re: Toronto Public School Board Support Staff Strike

Given the heightened concern over the strike by support staff of the
Toronto Public School Board, please ensure that this message is cascaded to all colleagues. Thank you.

As many of you are aware, 13,000 support staff at the Toronto Public School Board are currently on strike. Although the Board has drawn up contingency plans to ensure that schools remain open, disruptions to the normal school day could potentially impact some of our colleagues. We would like to express our full support and call on all managers and other colleagues without children to be flexible and understanding during this time.

Although many colleagues are fortunate enough to be able to make
alternative childcare arrangements, such as calling on friends and family to assist them during what may be a difficult and unusual circumstance, there are other parents for whom such a situation may cause excessive stress and worry.

With that in mind we are suggesting the following steps to help those
affected get through what may be a difficult time:

Consult with family and friends to make group childcare arrangements
with other families sharing the same situation

Discuss plans with your colleagues and consider the option of pooling resources with them

Contact local community centres or recreation centres such as the YMCA to inquire about local initiatives to deal with the strike

Contact your place of worship to see if they plan to offer any
    assistance during the strike

Use the resources of your Employee Assistance Program's Taking Care childcare service to identify local emergency day care centres, trained caregivers for emergencies or organizations with lists of baby-sitters.

You can access this information through the Internet at
www.busyfamily.com and use the company's code (xxxxxxxxx) to enter the site.

You can also call Taking Care directly at 905-xxx-xxxx between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and ask for direct staff assistance in finding childcare.

For further assistance, call the Employee Assistance Program directly at (416) xxx-xxxx

If after trying the above suggestions, you still do not have a workable
solution, do not panic. We will be as flexible as possible so parents who have to come in late or work reduced hours can do so. Talk to your
    managers, share ideas and solutions.

Not everyone is a parent of school-aged children, so I ask these employees to be supportive and understanding of your co-workers. The changes and stress levels during the strike may effect us all. However, I am confident that if we all pull together we can deal with the challenges presented by this situation.

Thank you for your support.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
