US car manufacturers have set up a large service network to provide services to all their customers. The service charge is cheaper than the Japanese made but the US cars are more liable to be serviced in a garage especially those aged cars.

And also a high-end car may cost you more in the routine maintenance.
Agree. An 89 car seems way too old. You will not feel good when each time you come out of your car.

The japanese small sedan generally consumes 8-9 litres/100KM in the city, the US small sedan(less than 2.4L) manufatured after 1999 will consume about 11-13 litres/100KM. However, the older US car will consume 2 times more gas than the japanese car.

So if u r not rich, buying an older US large size car will cost u a lot of money for monthly gasoline supply.
