in North America, got FDMA,TDMA, and CDMA in market, it can autoswitch and transferred smoothly without problem.
Fido is TDMA system. Telus, Bell got both CDMA and TDMA.

the keypoint is the cellphone is as a part of service, called free under service plan, typically 25$ per month for 150min. one year contract.
but why the cell phones from China cannot be used here? Is that means they work with difference frequencies?

you are right. in canada there is also GSM network,but the frequency is 1900m. in china,the operaters provide 900m and 1800m network.that is why if you got a three frequencies(900m,1800m,1900m) cell phone in china you can also use in canada
