I used to have a Chinese boss who told me he couldn't give me a better bonus becasue both of us are Chinese and he wanted to avoid people said he discriminated other race. So even I was his best man, I couldn't get the biggest bonus.
I left!
Your boss deserves it that he loses a capable man. Even though he's at high level, I guess he still suffers from self-discrimination.

My limited experience so far is mostly positive, which doesn't mean I havn't had my share of negative experience in life, but they are not job-related.
