From what I know, the Taurus is one of the best Car in Ford, but only in Ford. My friend want to sell his Taurus, cause they have a common problem, the engine often stops when you are driving it. -jimmych(tennis); 2001-5-12 {891} (#68382@0)
Your car just worth 4000$, and if possible, you'd better not buy it! It is a terrible car!
My friend bought his car at 11k$, without warranty, the next day, he found the engine stopped on the way, so he totally spent 3K$ to fix it, but it still does not work. This poor guy still drive it with the stooping engine. He want to sell it to dealer without telling them the truth, but the dealer only give him 1600$. It is a 94 ford Taurus, station Wagon, 168Kmileage.
The story has not finished. The poor guy made uphis mind to buy a new car to his wife. You know what happened, the new car has not been driven 100 kilometers, but was hit by a crazy black young guy directly when he turned left at a intersection. That black guy went through the red light.
I will never buy ford car, they have a famous saying about FORD,

I used to have an Escort with only 90K on it. It stopped at an intersection after making a U-turn. I had it towed to a Ford dealer's where the car get well. The dealer could not find anything wrong and discounted the inspection fee. After that I was feared to death in that car each time I was followed by a large truck, thinking "if the engine stops, I will be dead". Finally I cannot stand it and traded it in. After that, I read a lot of car owner's experience and come to suspect the problem might be caused by the transmission, for the accident happened just a week after I had the transmission serviced by a Chinese mechanic.

I also heard a story on a brand new Camery. It stops suddenly on a local road and was towed to a dealer's. As it was still under warranty, the dealer did not tell how much it cost, only saying it was a small problem.

because you had to have it towed, that means you couldn't restart the engine at all. If it were a transmission problem, you should be able to start the engine. One of my friends had 96 taurus which locked the steer whell all of a sudden, it scared shit out of him

我自己认为如果没有条件买新车或比较新的车的话，就找私人买一辆5000$左右的Camry or Accord. 运气好的话可以买到92年左右，18万公里的Camry. 买车时注意几点：1。车没有事故 2。最好是first owner,如果是老头或老太太就更好了。2。Mileage 不要高于200K, I bought one camry with mileage 216k, lower is better. 3. Try the car carefully, without much noise，车子启动没有问题，加速良好，高速平稳，车子的其它功能正常，就应该是一辆好车。
买车一定要有耐性，在看到好车后要当机立断，也别忘了讲讲价。几条原则：1。 Camry or Accord
2. 91 or Newer
3. First Owner
4. reasonable low mileage (20K each year)
5. Good driving than better looking!
