  • 相约北美 / 移民留学 / QUEBEC SHOULD BE GOOD FOR NEW IMMIGRANTI, FOR THE LOW LIVING COST AND OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FRENCH. BUT ALSO TWO PROBLEMS.
THE FRENCH LANGUAGE THERE IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM THE FRANCE. SECOND, IT IS NO GOOD TO STUDY ENGLISH IN THIS FRENCH AREA. HOW DO YOU GUYS THINK?
    • 1. Since most people haven't been to France yet, don't worry too much. Tthe difference among F French, Q French, and C French is same. 2. Maybe the accent is a little different from Ontario or the States, but it's all up to your own effort.
      • I'VE BEEN TO FRANCE TWICE. THE FRENCH CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE CANADIAN FRENCH AT ALL. VERY BIG DIFFERENCE.
        • As long as French Canadian understands you , you don't need to worry. BTW, my native colleague said she didn't understand Newfoundlander's English at first when she was sent to there.
          • I AM THINKING ABOUT LIVE IN QUEBEC,CAUSE THE LIVING COST IS LOW THERE. BUT THE LANGUAGE IS THE MOST CONCERN.
BUT I HAVE TO ALSO CONSIDER THE LANGUAGE. MOST PEOPLE SPEAK FRENCH THERE, SO VERY LESS PEOPLE SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH THERE. THIS WAY, HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH WHILE STUDYING A NEW ONE? ANY FREE ENGLISH TRAINING COURSE THERE?
            • I lived there for several years. Yes it was very confused when I just stepped out of the airport and I didn't know one single word of French:P
But most people in central area of Montreal are bilingual, and there are two English universities. I think Montreal High School Board has ESL courses(in University Street, surrounded by McGill's buildings) for very low charges.
              • THANKS FOR THE POST. DOES BILINGUAL PEOPLE SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH AS NATIVE ONE?
                • absolutely. maybe the accent is a little different, but as I know, many people started to learn French when they were born, and study to say English at daycare, so they talk to their friends and family members using two languages.
                  • started to say, not study to say.
          • ANY GUY LIVE IN QUEBEC? COULD YOU TELL ME ABOUT QUEBEC?
            • As I said before, it's really up to yourself to improve your English. Maybe you can try to go to churches in Westmount area instead of Chinese churches every Sunday. Try to communicate with white people, it does help a lot.
