本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Which position I should choose, the Computer Programmer or the Computer Systems Analysts?

I studied in machanical department in the university, and didn't like it at all. So I gave it up as soon as I came to the company without any hesitates. In my company, I have been working in the Computer Centre( Now is called: IT Centre), which was established at the same time I graduated from my university. My working periences is as the followings:

First the two years, I started to learn the installation of all kinds computers, including the pcs, servers, and the network. During this time, I have familizied with the operations, the hardware construction and started to learn the programing software such as basic, pascal, foxbase, foxpro, c. Meanwile I have joined some small project, being a basic programmer.

Then I was arranged to the techinical management department. I was responsible for an introduced project. I received the foreign language (english and french ) strenghtening training for almost 1 year in International Language University. Later I was sent to the foreign country and received the techinical training. During the project, my duty is :joining the project contract negotiation , manage the schedule plan of the introduced project, communicate with the partner company, being parttly technical translations, the user training... What's a pity! The introduced equipment is used for the production line making, that is involved in the the mechanicals knowledges, not the computers. It almost took me two years.

The last 5 job years. I am a project manager in IT Centre. I am responsible for the website construction, business market develop, supervise the system network . You know the website is developing under the continuous construciton. I served as project manager for any one of covered projects. I think my skill is as : 1.the configuration of the networking equipments. 2. the operationg of the Sun Solaris, AIX, and the NT. 3. familiarize with the networking protocols. 4.training for the users,. 5. partly writing program in Java, C language. 6.familiarize with the database oracle, a specail chinese database, and the sybase. 7.familiarize with the hompage tools, including the flash, dreamweave, the frontpage, the photoshop, and javascript.

It is said that the canadian computer company is only intersted in such a person with a prfoficient in only one espect.

    So my troubles is :

    (1) which position is more suitebale for me, the software programmer or the computer systems analysts? I mean , which position is more beneficial for wining the success of the application?

    (2) The name of the department is changed. Before called Computer Centre, now called IT Centre. During my working expericence notarization, how to express it?

    • 1, programmer is ok.
      • Thx. but can you tell me why? Frankly, I am really interested in your analyse. Pls, be waiting...Thx again.
        • It's more difficult to be a SA.
However, a SA doesn't get more points for the immigration. So I think it's better to apply as a programmer.

You may check the definition of SA in NOC web site, which you can find in 枫下黄页/政府机构.

          • Your reply is valuable for me . It's apprecaite. Meric.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Sorry. I haven't come here for some days. Your analyst is right. I have red the NOC carefully and completely in the direction of your provider to me. Meric! ! Now I have learned the duties, responsibilites, movements in the daily work , education backgrounds, private characteristics , and the other's relatived requirements for the specific occupation. Yes, it's so clearly . From comparing the charts of the distribution of the age , the gendar, job area, earnings and the other's factors, I also learn the present and forecast differences between the computer programmer and the computer system analysts. By the way, I have searched the job hunting websites in Canada , and knew some relavant informatons. Not only in the Canada's real occupational staus, but also in my real working experiences , educaitonal background and the characteristic, I believe I will have a postitive position in the end. Sure, and in your valuable direction and analysts. Meric!!

            • You're always welcome.
Your email is welcome. also I prefer to read your questions in the forum, if you think that's not personal privacy. Thus more friends can help you and more friends can benefit from the discussion.
    • About the referer
The referer is to confirm what and how you have done in a certain position. Whoever understand your work can act as the referer, e.g. your supervisor, co-worker, etc. Even if he/she left the original position, he's still eligible to write a reference letter.
      • Ok, I see. The referer is not a big problem for me. but....
These weekend, I am busying with my application materials. You know, I must be careful with the application materials, including the contents and the lauguage style. There is no problem for the contents, but for the english style, I can't be sure. Poor my so-so english. Can you give me a hand ?

My university don't serve as the dragon line for leaving the country. So I have to translate the diploma, academy's record, and the others by myself. I mean I almost finish this work, can you check my work? Pls correct any errors in my orginals. Ok? But I worry it will take your precious times. If you would like, drop me a line. I will mail it to you, and ask your check carefully.

        Meric, meric!!!! my e-mail is : elle_yu@sohu.com

        I owe you a dinner?!!! : )
        • Go ahead.
You may email it to me. But for most specialized terms, I'm not very sure... maybe you can put the course name on the forum and more people can help? (I know you don't want to expose your marks, so just pos the course name :-)
        • try
